Morning Tragedy (Prayers Please)
I came upon this scene that took place less than a mile from my home. I was about a half hour later than the actual accident but the large group of Amish Folks and a local fire truck were still present at the scene. It saddened me to no end and I ask all for prayers for the families of those kids and for the little girl who is fighting for her life.

Happens around us too often normal slight curve or hill dusk or dark out or raining
drivers are too late to react due to sighting and traveling speed .wood buggys and human occupants do not fair so well against several tons of high speed steel

There are a lot of Amish and Mennonites around here. I always cringe when I see one going down the road. There are too many drivers that are fooling around with their phones and radios and other distractions, to pay attention to much of anything.

Agreed. I no longer ride a motorcycle on the road. (Long time rider.)
I also always cringed when I saw a wagon load of Family on the road.

Terrible, as I can see the same thing happening around here. A few years ago, I came home from working the night shift, rounded a blind curve and there was a buggy. Just one blink and I would have taken them out. I could not sleep after and still have flash backs. Dam-it they can ride up and down the road on tractors, use their cell phone, deer cameras, etc, but can't get a vehicle. I have a sign in every vehicle when I get in to beware of the Amish, so I am careful, and I still feel not good. I warn everybody that comes to my house when they leave to beware. I have some really close Amish neighbors and at first went out of my way to be neighborly. They are good neighbors so far (or it could be worse), but I find myself having to adjust to them instead of them adjusting to me. They are very independent people and when they move in they stay to their kind and that is about all I will say.
I have another neighbor who was raised Amish, but no longer considers himself Amish. He drives a vehicle and through the years have gotten him to work on several buildings. He laughs and says being Amish is a cult.

A terrible tragedy. Our roads are not compatable to horse-and-buggy traffic. I almost hit one driving between Houghton Lake and Gladwin after sunset. The buggy was half on the road and half on the shoulder. Luckily I was able to swerve around them and there was no approaching traffic on the two lane road.

In the near future I can almost see the headlines, "Car plows into a large group of bicycle riders" around here, Lots of winding blind curves and college with a big bicycle team.

Prayers for the family. The black buggy's with no flashing lights front and back or tall tell-tale whip mounted flags are a recipe for disaster. I am hesitant to want more laws but these wrecks can be avoided if the buggy's have warning flashers and tall flags so drivers can see them over the crest of hills. I was passing a slow car around dusk one evening and almost hit a buggy head on. Being black, with a black horse made them almost invisible to me in the other lane.

We live among the Amish and see them everyday. We have had buggies in our yard when someone runs them off the road. A couple times a year one of them gets hit nearby. Thankfully we have not had a fatality in some time.

Thanks all for the prayers and well wishes. Funeral services will be held tomorrow 3\23 for the two Miller kids, brother and sister that died on Monday.

Our deepest sympathy for the Miller family. Can't imagine loosing two children.
