Got lucky by Having Bad Luck
I rarely go down to our basement. It is a 3/4 basement with the rest being a storage area about 3'tall.
No need to go down there unless it's to get meat out of the freezer or grab a gun out of a safe to take to the garage.
I headed down there Friday after work to mess with a safe and the first thing I see is water on the floor.
Fairly new water heater so I hoped it was not the issue.
The water was dripping out of the copper line on the water heater.
Unfortunately, not at the water heater but, where it connected, in the crawl space part of our basement.
The copper at the flare had split.
There was not enough line to cut and re-flare so, off to town.
I got a 7' piece of line and got it flared and back in service.
Not too big of a deal except for the location to get to it and the fact that that is where I store my gun boxes. 😥
Not sure if they are ruined or not.
I did get lucky in the fact that the water was running down the line.
Straight down, and I probably not of noticed until we got the water bill.

100+ year old house.
The crawlspace part of the basement could of been a real mud bath if I woiuld not of noticed!
I'm happy I noticed it Friday afternoon rather than Sunday night!

Yep, glad you found it sooner rather than the later. Water can do so much damage.

Having a finished basement has been a blessing and a curse for me. Stuff I never gave much thought to before having one. The master bathroom upstairs sink was missing the drain plug when we bought the place. I just had to install one! Within a week, my wife was filling the sink and got distracted. She later found her mess and cleaned things up without mentioning to me. Later in the day I went downstairs to my man-cave bathroom (which is directly under upstairs B\R) and noticed the ceiling had brown stains and was dripping! 😲
My first line of repair was to remove that upstairs sink drain plug!

Pex is your friend and savior in all matters plumbing supply line related and works great for 125 PSI air distribution too!!

Pex will last longer and not break or split like copper. Couple of shark bite and pex will do the job.

I remember my most recent plumbing fiasco.
My hot water heater developed a slow leak. Dont remember how I caught it, (since it's in a seldom opened closet.) but I did.
After securing a new water heater and draining the old one, (like an Idiot) I tried to very gently rock the bad water heater to insure it was fully drained. 😮😩😬😒
Well, the older brittle 1/2" PVC line snapped, right behind the shut off valve. 😮😔😢 It wasn't pretty, because like an Idiot, I had not cut off power to my booster pump in the basement. (Lesson learned.) Water spewing everywhere after I removed my thumb, so I could go shut off the water. Doh..........😟
I Laugh about it now. 🤔😉😂🤣

I thought about replacing it with Pex but, in the position the pipe was in and how close it was to one of my ducts, I wasn't sure if I could get the flared fitting off.
So, I just replaced the copper.
