You have 500 dollars. What sidearm will you buy?
Let's say you have $500 dollars to spend on a new sidearm. What's it gonna be and why?
I don't have a stubby revolver yet so I'm going with the Smith & Wesson 642 Airweight with the 2" barrel.

my knuckle still hurts from shooting one of those.....
Me, I'd probably go with a Glock of some sort.

Probably an FN 509

Another Canik and have $150 left to buy ammo.

You made a good choice!

Glock 19

I'll have to save a lot more and get what I want...

If allowed I would do like Ruger4me above. If not Bersa BP9MCC and have a lot left over for ammo. Very underrated.

You didn't include enough information. Is this for concealed carry? Home protection, the list goes on and on!!
I totally agree with your choice of a 642. I have two of them. They are my choice for concealed carry.
Reach in your pocket. Pull out your 642. Point/aim (depends on distance to target) pull trigger.
No short stroking, no forgetting to wipe off the safety, no jambs, nothing to think about. Pull it, shoot it. So simple!!

It's for whatever you want it to be provided you can get it new for 500 dollars. ๐
I also considered the Taurus 66, 6" barrel. But I like the snub nose S&W better for the price.

I would give the money to my wife with no strings attached.
She takes great care of me, besides I have all the firearms I need.

"I have all the firearms I need."
I don't know what that means. ๐

It means I don't need any more. ๐

I thought the answer to the question "How many guns do you need?" was always "Just a few more." ๐ค

Glock 19
Yep

If I want to have fun, a Ruger Mark IV with a target barrel. Plink City!!
If I want a full sized 1911-A1, an Armscor will fill that bill in an easy recoiling 9 MM!
Concealed carry? A Ruger LCP in a 380. I would say a Smith 642 but I already have two of those.
A full sized open carry piece? Glock 17.
All 4 of these are quality handguns and can be had for under $500!

I have all the guns I need. Of that there is no question. I have way more guns than I need.
I do not have all the guns I want. Of that there is no question. I have way more guns that I want then I will ever possibly obtain!! Want and need are two entirely different animals!!

Not custom, but better than you would expect for the price. Which is not to say I carry one, but would not hesitate if that was the best the budget allowed.

Since one is none and two is one, I think you mean you need 2 of each.

I own a S&W 642 Airweight. It has become my EDC. It also resides in an ankle holster, on the upright on my bed frame, right by my head. The last time a thread was put up here on "What is your EDC?" The 642 had quite the following. Stupid reliable and simple, as posted above. A lot to be said for that.
I also own a Gock 22 in .40cal. I'd look long and hard at one of those also. ๐ค
*Not on the OP, but (currently) I'd take that $500 and apply it towards the Specialty Handgun, I am currently bidding on. (Might come close to 1/3rd.)
My Bersa Thunder in .380 is a gem also. Highly underated firearm. Quite the deal for the $$. (Based on the Walther PPK.)
