Enjoy your unexpected two day holiday. North and South Dakota are two of my favorite states. At least during the couple of weeks of spring before it gets to hot and windy and the couple of weeks of fall before it gets to cold and windy. Of course the rest of the time it is still windy but bearable. On a prairie dog shooting excursion I had a Weatherby Super Varmint get blown of the bench when I went back to the truck for more ammo. Luckily no damage but I laughed when the weather guy that night said it had been a little breezy. Bob

Yeah, and the supervarmint is a heavy gun. I literally lose like 2 hats a year. I'll be walking across the farm yard and whoosh, my cap is in the cornfield lol.

What area do you go Prarie doggin?

Enjoy your extra day off! We got another 9" or so of fluffy white stuff yesterday and last night and it's still comin' down. Gonna grab some breakfast then go break out the tractor/blower combo and clear the road soon.

Grasslands, but the best we ever did was in the northern part of S.Dakota near Buffalo. Sadly the ranches that welcomed us were bought out and the towns poisoned off or the new owners wanted to charge an arm and a leg. We were going every year for a long time but sadly haven't been in 10 years. I was doing the yearly empty the safes and wipe down the guns chore a while ago and dang I've got a lot of p-dog guns that ain't getting used. Oh well, they aren't costing me anything just sitting there.

Just out of curiosity, I added up what those relatively inexpensive hunts would cost today and about had a heart attack! The fact that most places want to charge that arm and a leg, plus the cost of gas, plus the cost of 1500 - 2000k rounds of ammo and all the rest, added up to a ridiculous amount! Makes me wish I was local, so I could just shoot for an afternoon now and then.😊 Bob
