My parents were not much on any musical show other that country music lol
Just Like the sound of music , mary poppins or really I have never seen any of them

Fiddler on the Roof was set in a Jewish village in Ukraine in 1909. There was some discrimination against the Jews by the troops of the Czar, but it wasn't too bad. However, by the end of the movie, many of the villagers had packed up and moved to America, I recall the butcher moved to Chicago.
That was a good idea, as it turned out. You didn't want to be a Jew in Ukraine in 1942, when Hitler took over.
Not to mention, Stalin starved 5 million peasant farmers to death in Ukraine in 1933-1936.

My wife's grandfather on her mom's side left Poland just before WW II he started a new family here
we found d some old letters from the family in Poland he had received sad is a understatement
