Granddaughter Wrestler
One of my granddaughters has started wrestling this week. She won her first two matches a couple days ago, one with a tap out.
She wrestled tonight. First match against a boy, she pinned him. Second match, won by points, 7-2.
First year wrestling, and goes in the first week with 4-0. Off to a good start.

Funny thing. Her older brother who just took 8th in state, maintained honor roll with 4.0, is hard on his two younger sisters, with chores,studying,ect. These two would fight alot over it , that he being too mean, too bossy, ect.
They have always play wrestle, and fight at home. But now she and her brother have an whole different relationship. She approached him and said, "it really works, huh, working hard for what you want, it really works"?? He just smiled, and said told you.
So, this is her first year wrestling, and has asked her brother for help, support, training, practice.

Yes Sir. Hard Work and Focus, can not be underestimated. Amazing what you can accomplish, when those two variables are brought to the table.

Two of my grand daughters are body builders. One is a sergeant with a Nevada P.D. city and her twin is the K-9 officer with the S.O. in the same county. We dint raise no sissies. Fight like a gurl!

Why competing against a boy? Mixed league, I don't see that having a good outcome in the future

The hard work of HS athletics not only teaches values and work ethic but being VERY tired encourages good behavior. It is hard to get in trouble when you are sound asleep because you are exhausted from your workouts!😁
With my children I noticed athletics gave a better ability in time management since they had a lot less time to do things like school work.

never believed in the co-ed wrestling. If the boy gets beat the rest of the team will razz him to no end, if the boy beats the girl, he will be razzed for beating her and not getting a real win from the rest of the team, not to mention the chance of accidental/intentional grope from the boy, to me it is a no win situation for the boy unfortunate enough to get picked to wrestle her, no disrespect towards her.

Im gald she is doing good and enjoying the sport. That was the hardest sport I ever participated in, and aslo caused me the most injuries(yes, more than football!). I had to drop out my senior year after my 2nd shoulder surgery.
As stated above, I wish there were more female wrestlers so they could have their own league. Once she gets older, the boys will be much harder to beat.
There is no good option in most places, either wrestle the boys, or don't wrestle. Either way is not fair in the long run.
BUT here's to her having a long, happy, successful time wrestling!

the co-ed wrestling is about a thing of the past as more and more female squads arrive on scene. what usually happens is that a girl does not have an opponent in her weight class, so the boy's squad is asked to provide an opponent to just have a match. a boy wrestler in her weight class is usually weaker and less experienced than the older male wrestler. also, in most cases the female is stronger at that weight bracket, so in reality its not such a travesty as what some of you are thinking. girls wrestling is on fire currently with participation rates climbing yearly. most states have complete state championship programs set for women's wrestling separate but equal to the men's programs.
