My poor schnauzer
She is diabetic and totally blind. Going on 12 years old. She never has had an accident in the house since she was a puppy. Today I came home and she went #2 on our bedroom floor. She is just getting worse and worse. Vet said he would not put her down, because she really has no other health issues , besides the diabetes, she is a very healthy dog. For the last month, all she does is mope around and is not herself. I don't really want to put her down, but she has lost all quality of life, in my opinion. I hate to see her suffering. Bloodwork came back negative for anything else, besides the diabetes. Vet might give her some happy pills if she doesn't get back to her old self this week. WTH. She is my world. Really upset over her. Oakie

Sorry to hear this Oakie, when ever one of ours got old and started having issues eventually they would "tell us" it's time the dog or cat, not the vet, and then we would know it was time... hard to let them go, but when they tell us we have to listen, it's not fun but they can't live forever...😥

Oakie, So sorry to hear this. Hang on to your little dog as long as you can if she is not in a lot of pain. Give her lots of love. Lost my sweetheart Diane few days before Christmas and my little dog "Willie" is my everything now even though I love my two children dearly. He has one issue at 11 years that vet can't figure out. I would be lost with out "Willie" at this point in my life.-----Ray

She gets 12 units, twice a day. She started at 6 and were up to 12 now, over a two year time period

Ours weighs about 7 pounds, 5 units 2 a day.

Sending plenty of prayers for her.... Perhaps you could crate her when you leave or put her in a pen on the kitchen floor with newspapers.🙏♥️

Oakie, love on her and have a talk with her while you still can. Tell her what a good girl she is and what she's meant to you. It'll do you both good.

So sorry to hear this, Oakie. I sill miss my old Lab, Nina. I put her down 7 years ago at the age of 16 because she could no longer be a Labrador. She was done.
It was the right thing to do but it hurt like nothing I've ever experienced before or since.
We all support you and that great dog of yours. Prayers to both of you.

We had a toy poodle that was our daughters. When she moved out the dog did not. He developed crushing's disease, diabetic, and went blind. Was on insulin and prednisone for a long time. In the beginning it wasn't so bad, he adapted well. It didn't take long though for his quality of life to steadily go downhill. Finally one day he just told us it was time and we knew it was. We took him to the vet and said it was time, the vet said it was time 2 yrs ago but I couldn't tell you that. We realized a few years later, that keeping him alive was for our benefit, not his. It was hard, it's never easy.
We 3yrs. ago put down a cat when vet first told us there was treatable but irreversible major health issue. We just couldn't prolong it for our benefit like we did the dog. It was hard. It's never easy.
We now have the two litter mate sister cats, and Kimber the dog.
Sorry for your sad situation, it's never easy.

Sorry to hear this . They become such a big part of our lives . Bella , my lab , is starting to go downhill. I truly dread the day I have to make the decision . Prayers for you my friend.

Wife's nephew left his dog with us while he went to college 30 years ago, he must still be in school.
Anyway the dog, Pizz Willie, mentioned in another post came down with a bad cancer in his side.
I was doing some track hoe work around the house, no one home but me a Pizz. Tough decision but put him down and placed him in his final resting place. Sad thing no one missed him for several day.
Critters give you all their heart and take part of yours when the leave.

Sorry @Oakie. I do agree with @tnranger, give her as much Love and attention as you can in her remaining time. Tell her how much you Love her and how much she has meant to you. Plenty of hugs and kisses. As tnranger mentioned, it will do you both good.
So sorry to hear. I Love my dog (Buddy) dearly and would be lost without him. God Blessed me, when we found each other. I firmly believe it was meant to be. I don't know how, but I've seen over and over again, he can read my mind. It boggles my mind. (Sorry, got side tracked.)
I am very Sorry for the situation you find yourself in.

Our Norwegian Elkhound was born with a brain tumor and had to be on meds early on. She had seizures almost every day until we took her to the vet for the last time.
We haven't had a dog since then. I've been tempted to get another pup, but the memory of the issues that she had, precludes that thought. I still miss her.

Years ago my wife rescued a "puppy mill" dog.
Ginger was about 2 years old when we got her, and had already been abused for two litters.
In the 9 years we had our part Australian Shepard, part Rottweiler Ginger.........you could not have asked for a more kind and loyal dog......IF SHE KNEW YOU!!! But......all it took was one belly rub, and she was your friend.
Sadly......the last four years were filled with treatments and surgeries for various cancers, including two trips to the Univ. of Missouri Vet School for nuclear medicine treatments.
All tolled.....about $35k......and the hurt was severe, the day we lost her. Still is.
After all that........we'd do it ALL again in a heartbeat.....for Ginger💓.
