I keep a S&W 642 Airweight (.38 Special) by my head in an ankle holster mounted to the bed frame upright.
Various 12 ga. Shotguns are within reach. Scattered throughout the house.
If surprised, the .38. If time to react, a 12 ga.
My Pit (Buddy) will be on you and keeping you busy, if You are inside my house, anyway. My main focus will be in not shooting my dog. You will be screaming "Get him off me, get him off me."

Nothing semi-auto..... home defense is not the time to risk a weapon failure. I use a 12 gauge pump action Mossberg 590, various revolvers, and lever action rifles.

Home defense is not the time to have a potential short stroke on a pump. Benelli M2 with extended tube for me, with a Glock 23 on the hip. Both as reliable as the day is long.

I have a very loud recording of a pump shotgun being pumped. If that noise doesn't scare the perps away, my 2nd defense should do the trick. My house is haunted and the ghost hates burglars!
