The Tikka T1x MTR : a review
My most recent purchase was a Tikka T1x MTR (20" barrel) in 22LR. I read a lot about it and though I'd never fired a Tikka, I took a chance.
I've fired about 800 rounds thru it and every shot has made me smile.
First off, it looks great but isn't anything fancy. The stock is black synthetic and comfortable. For a few dollars more, I could have added a different color forestock and grip but instead I opted for a couple more magazines. Practicality over presentation, I guess.
Mechanically, this rifle is as smooth as they come. The bolt moves without any binding, hitches, roughness, or wiggle. Spent brass is ejected far away from you every time and I've yet to encounter any ammo that trips it up. The trigger is light, smooth, and adjustable if you feel so inclined. I didn't bother. I liked it straight out of the box.
The gun's accuracy is better than I will ever be. Recently, I've been using CCI standard ammo and there are no flyers, only my own mistakes and "do better" moments. Experiments with other ammo yielded great results, too, but I settled on the CCI standard because it's cheaper than the high velocity option and seems less dirty than most other brands.
I added a scope to it because the rifle has no iron sights (I have my trusty old Remington 550 for iron sight shooting). Talley makes some specifically for the T1x, so I went with those and installed a Bushnell 3-12x40 scope with parallax/side-focus, a requirement for my near-sightedness. The entire setup is rock solid.
Definitely, one of the best rifles I own.
