KAHR CM 45 Owners -
Pulled it out of the safe, removed the magazine and tried to rack slide to see if loaded/chambered. It's Locked up. (?)
Tried several times, not budging beyond a very slight rearward pull.
Just put the magazine back in to try it again. No go.
My next step is to unload the magazine, reinsert it and see if it fires.
I can not see an automatic with a round chambered, that the only way to unload it, is to fire the round clambered. What am I missing?
What's wrong?
*Yes, beyond the fact that it is a KAHR CM .45.

Here is a fix for the CM9, whether or not it applies to your 45 I haven't a clue.

Alright guys, my dad was cleaning his Kahr P9 today after a flawless shooting session at the range and I think he messed something up. After cleaning, he put the barrel into the slide, the spring back onto the guide rod, the guide rod back on top of the barrel then the entire assembly back onto...Bob

What I do not understand, is that the handgun was not broken down and re-assembled, from the last time it was shot.
I live alone, so most of my firearms (in my safe or out) have a round chambered. Pick it up, it's ready to go.
I picked this one up out of the safe, dropped the mag and tried to draw the slide back to confirm there was a round in the chamber. Locked up.
Really confused at this point. I believe I will take it bout this evening, point it in a safe direction, (the pond) and see if it will fire.
I find it hard to believe that a semi-auto would be designed in such a way, that a live round chambered could only be evacuated by firing it. Something has to be wrong. (?)

If no one chimes in with an answer to your problem, you could always give the Kahr Technical support folks a call 508-795-3919. It might be a known problem with an easy fix. Not sure I would try to fire it without their o.k.There may be a broken part inside that will cause more damage if fired. Good luck with it. Bob

Ken, why not slip a pencil (?) into the barrel & confirm there's a round in the chamber?

Watching some you tube videos just now guys had FTF but was able to rack the slide to clear the round from the chamber. Yeah, there's something not right with yours. Be careful clearing it.

Look at extractor on side of slide, is it intact?
In safe direction, finger off trigger, hit back of slide with heal of your hand to ensure it's all the in battery, then try to rack slide.

Just slip an empty mag in, step out on your balcony, and kill a leaf.

If the slide is jammed, damaged, where would the energy of recoil go???

Yeah, I agree @montanajoe. Not going to attempt to fire it for that very reason.
Went to bed early last night so did not fool with it. Headed out to work here shortly, so same thing.

Not real familiar with a KHAR CM 45, but on some firearms when the safety is on your not able to pull slide back or open the bolt. I feel kind of silly mentioning this as I know you probably have already tried this. Make sure the safety is all the way off, and maybe try working it a few times, even try working the safety and the slide while the gun is up side down. Only other scenario I can think of is maybe case diameter is over sized and stuck in the chamber.

If there is a round in the chamber this is what I would do. Remove magazine and put the pistol in a padded vise, try and put a flat jewelers screw driver between the extractor plunger and extractor, push back on the plunger to relieve pressure on the extractor and see if slide will pull back. If that doesn’t work then I would leave pistol in the vise, while someone holds the back of the slide pulling back, take a 4 inch dowel rod and place the dowel against the back of the chamber against the slide in a 20° angle holding firmly, then tap the dowel with a hammer to try and get the slide broke free and back. Careful to have the muzzle pointed away from you and don’t let your hand get in front of the muzzle while tapping. If all has failed up to this point maybe remove the slide barrel lock and remove slide and barrel from frame. If unable to remove slide from frame, there must be a problem where the trigger arm is engaging the striker and is binding.
What ever you do don’t try and send it back to the factory LOADED, you will get into deep do do.

Spent all day at work. Just got home. The LAST thing I want to do is get all frustrated fooling with it right now. Letting Buddy out, gonna feed him, sitting down with a cold beer.

Just got off the phone with KAHR Arms Technical Support. (Very nice, very helpful and patient.)
Two suggestions to try. One, put a bent paper clip up the magazine well, to pull the "Cocking cam" down. (Or remove the side plate.) Ridiculously small Torx bit holding that on. Pretty sure I do not have that size.
(Or) Two, small hammer and punch to gently drive out the "Slide Hold Back Lever," (Disassembly Lever.)
Couple things to try.
*Have pretty well confirmed there is a round in the chamber. Which I thought to begin with.

Left a message for a buddy down the road that owns a welding, repair, fabrication shop. Seeing if I can take it down, he might have the teeny tiny Torx Bit needed to remove the side panel to get to the "Cocking Cam." (Or) See if we can drive out the "Slide Hold Back," Disassembly Lever pin out. (He will have a Brass punch.) All of mine are Steel.
He is a good friend, a mechanical genius and a fellow Gun Nut.
Waiting to hear back.
Off Today. No rush on this. Gets fixed when it gets fixed. Better than picking it up in a self-defense scenario, only to find out it's Locked up. Feel fortunate in that regards.

I didn't think to ask. (I did after I hung up though.)
They told me to "feel free to call back" though. "They were there to help." Pleasant experience, all in all. Very helpful. Did not rush me off the phone. Took time to answer all my questions.
Sounds like he felt like the "Cocking Cam" hung up. Not sure why that would happen.
When I can down to my buddies shop, will see if we can get to the bottom of it.
*I tried to push the "Slide Hold Back Pin/Lever," out with a small phillips head screw driver while trying to "relieve pressure," by holding the slide back slightly. (A 3 handed operation.) No joy. I did manage to stab myself in the leg though. 😮😁

I've been researching this since you posted it and it sounds like it's not uncommon for Kahr's to lock up like yours did.

Sold my two 1911's a couple years back. I was so disgusted with my Commander mdl. Having failure to feed issues every two/three rounds, regardless of the magazines used. (Some Wilson Combat, etc.) That I sold it and an unfired GI Issue. (Both ATI.) After about 2-300 rounds. (All 230 gr. Ball.)
Never been so disgusted in a new firearm in all my life.
If I sell this, (KAHR) I will have no .45's.
Have a fair stash of .45 Ammo. May have to figure something out.
