Cracker Barrel restaurants
We just love them. However with all this covid BS they just don't have the service they used to. Real shame.

Kinda like a free pass, isn't it, William?
One of the gone menu items was the "Grampa" breakfast (or something like that.) It was really too much to eat and overly rich to boot. Now that I am a Grampa, I don't/can't eat like I used to. I'll get a meat and eggs with grits, corn muffins, and coffee and that fills me up. None of their hash brown casserole, thank you.
A freebie for sure.....I am the same, usually a breakfast there fills me up for the rest of the day... All I need is a small supper on days when we eat there...

Our favorite pizza joint shut down the dining room in 2020 and gave it up for good. I think they're missing an opportunity to rent it out for events.

Breakfast is pretty safe there. Other meals, eat at your own risk. Eat lunch at one on 77 north headed to PA. Exits were almost too far apart for comfort.π²
Last one we tried to get in to eat had about 25% of the seats taken. Hostess says you will have a 15 minute wait and would not seat us. The door did not hit us in the rear as we left. This one is just east of you 84.
I would blame on shortage of help.
Maybe there weren't enough servers. One or two people serving tables, clearing tables. Listening to some person wanting to talk about how cold it is. Or hearing someone complain about slow service and dirty tables. Just saying...

bs, that would be my guess to. Seen it happen way before the worlds worst scam.

Used to go there with my parents. Do miss the okra but weβre just not close by one

There's hardly a restaurant in the country that doesn't have a "We're Hiring" sign out. I won't delve into the political reasons why this is so, but will just point out that no place can seat more people than they can serve. They could certainly put people at tables, but if there aren't enough servers and cooks, it's going to be a LONG wait to get anything from menus and drinks to placing and eventually getting your order.

Haven't been to a Cracker Barrel in years but we always liked playing with the tricky triangle game with the kids.
Remember "EG-NO-RA-MOOSE"

EVERY place to eat in the nearby town has "HELP WANTED." as stated above. Cracker Barrel here is very good and tries to accommodate the hundreds of visitors that come there each day. Fast food here is a 50/50 of getting an order right and the "help" with few exceptions don't care.

just think of all the snot on those triangles, they took them away during the dangdemic. Back now.

Two large chains that can be depended upon in the West are Cracker Barrel and Black Bear Diner. Same menu and quality at any store you stop at. Good quality, too. Both have bigger portions than I can eat now that I'm older, but both also have "senior" or reduced size options. CB is more Southern- styled, so that can be a welcome change.

I miss our Ponderosa Steakhouse and Tubby's Sub Shop! Now there is a Denny's with a Culver's next door. Culver's aint too bad though.

Culver's is indeed really good for a fast food place. Very broad menu, plus ice cream. I dote on their pork loin sandwich, and wife and I are driving 30 miles to go there this Friday for their fish sandwich. Lent for my wife, you know.

She had been arguing with me incessantly in my Mustang GT, with my Son in the back seat, over my AC not working, (I never use AC, just roll the windows down.) On the 11 hour drive down to TN from NY/NJ for a Family visit. I mean out of control non-stop aggressive BS. I had come to the decision on that trip that we were done. About 3/4 of the way down, we pulled in to a Rest Area so she could use the restroom. As soon as she got out of the car, I turned around and told my Son what was going on. (But) Told him if we turn around now, we are going to have to deal with some SERIOUS drama, all the way back. About 12 hrs on the road and be right back where we started.
Decided to just keep going to my Parents house and tough it out for the week.
She had been telling my Parents "we were getting married and She was my Fiance." Uh.........No.
I was pretty distant while at my Parents house (they would not condone us in the same bedroom anyway.) Lucky for me.
While at the Cracker Barrel in Gatlingburg, She kept elbowing me and whispering "Tell me you Love me, loud enough your Family can hear." Uh...............No.
Things went downhill fast from there. The screaming and tears commenced. Everybody in the place was looking at me like I was the biggest turd in the World.
I remained calm through the whole thing. Even my Mom commented that She was proud of me.(after it was over and she stormed out.) She was proud of me for remaining calm and trying to diffuse the situation. My Sister across the table with her kid's crying said, "Did you really have to do that here?" Me - "Did it look like i had a choice?"
I just wanted to drop through the floor.
I had to leave to follow her to make sure she was okay, crying hysterically through the streets of Gatlingburg until she found a car rental place.
I had to cut my trip short and rush back N. She had keys to my Cabin and her car was in my driveway. I had visions of my house being totally destroyed.
Ahh...................................Good Times.

@KenK/84Bravo , that sounds like that daymare story would make a good Made for TV movie of the week!
Hollyweird is hard up for ideas too! You could subsidize your retirement!!

I know you guys were joking about the "Cracker is racist" stuff. Did you not know that crackers actually came in barrels back when? Just like pickles.

Told by a reliable source that "cracker" came from the sound that a whip made when a Florida cowboy 'cracked the whip" over the ornary cows head.
Crackers did originally come in barrels.

Well, that depends on a few matters. Might want to check the "CRT" thread to see if you qualify for reparations. :D

@KenK/84Bravo , You suffer PTSD from a trip to Cracker Barrel. Should be a simple cut & dried case. If word gets out, you'll be swarmed by hundreds of lawyers wanting to TAKE your money....er....case!
On a side note, you will also have to get in contact with that Amazon gal to make your claims and commit yourself to some more stress. Who knows! Just may make amends with her and re-kindle an old flame! I hear human flesh smells just like roast beef at the right temperatures. π

Crackers did originally come in barrels.
I was taught it came from the slave foreman 'cracking the whip' over the slaves to 'encourage' them to work.

I guess I all depends on which story one wants to follow.
0 -
Cows or slaves, it was the crack of the whip that spawned the sobriquet "Crackers."
