.243 Win -vs- 6.5 CM (this morning)
Working up some loads for a new Savage 6.5 Creedmoor. Headed out to try a few different powders and charge weights. For this morning’s outing I used Hornady 147Gr ELD Match bullets burning Varget, Win 748, Win 760 and RL-17. The Win 760 printed the best with RL – 17 a close second. I’ll continue working up loads using those two.
One of my favorites for the 100yd to 300yd range is a Ruger Precision Rifle chambered in .243 Win. So that was this morning’s competition. I shot Hornady 75Gr V-Max bullets using IMR-4350.
Could not have asked for a better morning to shoot. 75 degrees out, no clouds and no wind.
The new 6.5CM loads were right where I expected them. I still have work to do, but for middle of the road velocity, I'm pleased and ready to ladder up. This also gives me an idea where to start on my 160 grain loads as well.
Still nowhere near the RPR in .243Win - But then it does love the 100yd to 300yd targets.
That's actually a .533 center to center group.
Both are bone stock rifles: Savage Elite Precision 6.5CM - Sightron SIII Long Range 10-50X60 optic.
Ruger Precision Rifle .243Win - Muller 8-32X44 Tactical optic.

Lookin' good!. I've had a couple, yes a couple, of Win 70 coyotes in 243 for quite a while that have counted for a lot of p-dogs. I load a 75gr Sierra and get about the same results. Bob

The savage trigger is so light I will never forget my first firing went off when I just touched the trigger. Good photos

@roswellnative, I was just perusing XP-100's. There was a XP-100, "Benchrest" rifle (12lbs w/fiberglass stock.) 20-22" SS Bull Barrel. It advertised a "1 oz, trigger." 😮

I have a 25/06 that had some 'trigger modifications' done before I traded for it. Nice to shoot but if the shooter failed to release the safety before pulling the trigger, when the safety was released, the rifle fired. Even a hard bump on the butt would drop the striker. A new trigger fixed that.
An ultra-light pull is nice but should be kept 'on the bench' vs field use where the rifle may be carried around loaded.

How many grains of 4350 were you using for the 243 loads???? I'm also a huge fan of the Hornady V-max bullets. Most of my load are done with them. I have a 700 BDL in 243 that I would like to fine tune. My Winchester model 88 in 243, basically kicks like a mule, for some odd reason. Even two of my buddies who shot it, said the same thing. No idea why. I really like your rifles. Very nice set ups. Oakie
