    All of these "Calculations," do not discuss/equate anything to/about "Just How Thirsty, Are You?"

    That would be the key to pulling up a gallon of water from 300'.

    Any effort/force/Ft. Lbs of Energy, Etc. are all just subjective, until that is factored in.

    Thirsty enough? Water available 300' down?

    What? I've gotta pull up 1 gallon (@8.34 lbs/gal.) Up 300'?

    Get outta my way.

    Weight is a function of gravity and distance.

    The mass of the earth and the water (m1 and m2) stay the same, but the weight (F) is inversely proportional to the square of the distance between the two centers of mass (R2):

     F = G(m1m2)/R2

    Fair enough. So, starting at 3500' above sea level how many feet would Joe have to lift a gallon of water for it to lose six ounces of weight?

    It should have a factor of safety of 2 to comply with good design practice.
