Steyr Bolt Action 5.45 X 39 -
Was remembering one of my 1st acquaintances with GB, (2005) was when I discovered a Steyr 5.45 X 39 Bolt Action, that was said to be an East German Sniper rifle for those posted to the Berlin Wall, in order to shoot, those trying to defect. Supposed to be pretty "rare," hard to find.
It was pricy, but very nice. Around $2K +/- if I remember correctly. Always remember that, and wish it was in my "Collection." Anyone have one?
Had an attached ("issued,") Optic, but I do not recall much about it though, now.

I have shot one and wasn't too impressed. I would say the ammo is holding the gun back. That is the thing about commie stuff the ammo is garbage and the barrels are rougher than a sewer pipe.

I believe I saw one, not too long ago. I do not remember/recall what it listed at. I also remember that it did not have the issued/matching Optic.

Century Arms Imported a batich of these back in the late 1990's, had a few come thru the shop.
Price then was in the $ 450-550 depending on if the scope was present. Was only a 4 or 6 power scope if memory serve me.
Wondering just how many were made? I may have a few magazines still around some where.

If I'm recalling correctly Kasey sold one of those a few years back. Interesting firearm with some interesting history.

The 5.45x39 can produce decent accuracy. I have a high quality VooDoo barrel that is 1 MOA with Silver Bear and even better with Hornady V-Max. Another S&W (STAG?) factory upper that will challenge the average .223/5.56 AR upper.
I also have a small stash of RWS 'target ammo' that is almost a collector's item item.
