Give me a ‘T’AVAR’ procedure ,,,,, ***UPDATE*** ,,,,,
Gonna have a TAVR procedure next week. The ‘ol aortic valve has calcium on it to the point of regurgitation into the left ventricle. ,,,,, Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR)
They trained a monkey (😉) to push various wires and catheters from the femoral arteries up into the aortic valve, inflate an elongated balloon in the valve ‘leaflets’ and shove the new valve in place and the old valve leaflets help hold it in place.
In the ICU over night, in case they have to install a ‘pacemaker’ and go home the next day.
Here’s what the expanded valve looks like, sample from manufacturer, after insertion and expanded, about the diameter of a quarter, and an end view showing the leaflets.
New valve leaflets’ are pork tissue. Doc said I’ll run a little fever, wanna eat all the time, and make love in the mud. 🤣
******* UPDATE ******* Got - ER - Done ,,,,,,,
Took longer to do the prep work than to shove the new valve in place. Two insertion places, one at the top of each groin area. Another two insertions in the arms.
Ask the nurse why an insertion place in the left groin. She said the left one was for the Doctors tool box, storing additional wires, inflation device to expand the valve (29mm diameter ,,,, 1.14 ID valve.
Inserted a ‘filter’ in the carotid artery to catch any debris from shoving the new valve into the old one, lessening the probability for a stroke. Two + hrs. for procedure, + one hour for recovery. Off to a room with enough wires attached to make a rocket engineer proud. Can’t drive for two weeks and a coffee cup is the weight max for lifting.
The Doc will give me a video of the monitor he was watching while stumbling around in my heart. 🤣
After pinching three of the nurses this morning they decided I would be better off at home ,,,,,,, 😂.
Feeling better already but lounging around for a couple of weeks ain’t gonna work ,,,,,, but I have a few tricks up my sleeve.
Many thanks for the kind words and prayers.

Wow ,,,,,,, they wouldn’t think of sending me home the same day. Biggest concern was the femoral artery, interior stitches, tearing loose and bleed out before they go in for repair.

Hope the Doc did an inventory so he was sure he didn't leave any tools behind. Heck, I found a wrench behind the battery box in a vehicle six months after I changed out the battery!😁
Glad everything went well and that you are on the road to recovery. I bet you will be surprised just how good you feel in a couple of weeks. Bob

Good news
Don't be a stubborn old guy like most of us just follow the docs advice and don't push the recover process
It's amazing what the docs and science can do now that a few yrs ago was a no win outcome
its hard to imagine what another 50 yrs or so will bring to the table
May you have many more great years to come to spend with your family

Glad you got it done. The technology has come so far, even from 2005 When I had my Mitral Valve done. (I was told, my Surgery was an 11 hour affair, with my Heart stopped for 8 hours.)
Glad your's was a non-event. Get well/heal up quickly.
I was backpacking with a 65 lb pack in the Catskills, 4 weeks after mine was done. I was in killer shape then. That's the key.

Rumor has it that they kept you overnight because all the nurses were smitten with you!
Glad to hear things went well!
