This Ain't Gonna Be Cheap.
Over the winter, I think I had a delivery drivers truck roll into my double door overhead garage door. I returned from work one day and noticed it was bent/creased. I did the best I could to push it back in to shape. Then kinda forgot about it.
Well yesterday I mowed the yard for the 1st time and opened up the door as normal. (Not even thinking about it.) Mowed the the yard and put the mower back in the garage. When I went to close it, it was not happening. Looked up it was kinda collapsed on itself and kinked. I tried to push things back into position, even smacking it a few times with a rubber mallet. It's not going to work. It's royally screwed up. Just got done looking up at it again, this am. It's screwed.
Of course it rained all last night and is raining now. I remember last time i had to call the overhead garage guy's for something relatively simple and it was $250 for 20 min. Work. (Yeah, I know, you pay for the knowledge/experience.) I'm seeing $$ signs on this one. I'm betting tge door is gonna have to be replaced.
Not good.
I wonder if my homeowners insurance would be of help?

I feel for you Ken. I have replaced 3 garage doors in the last 5 years. The first was on the house attached garage and it was 35+ years old and wood. The spring for the opener snapped and the door came down fast enough to split 2 of the four panels. Called my local guy and $800 later had a new door and spring installed. The second was on the detached 2 car garage that was only 10 years old. The bay that Judy parks in has an opener and it literally ripped through the panel it was attached to when she hit the button to open it. Obviously a piss poor design. Naturally the company that made that door no longer made anything that remotely resembled that damaged panel so we needed a whole new door. After looking high and low we couldn't find one that came close to matching the other door so we ended up replacing both so anther $1800 down the tube. Bob

I had two new garage doors put on my daughters house about a year ago.. Insulated Clopay doors and two new "smart" openers, cost me about $4600 all in.

Take a lot of "before" photos; you might be able to make a claim on your homeowners insurance. It's a shame you didn't take any when the door was down and the impact damage could have been better shown. But a "party or parties unknown" claim might stick anyway.

A security camera would have been handy for getting photos of the truck and cluck driving it.

Filed a Homeowners claim. Described the situation. They do not See/Hear a problem. It was damaged in the Wintertime. (Jan?) I thought it was no big deal, bent it back in to position best I could. (And) Forgot about it.
Did not open the door until yesterday when I mowed for the 1st time. Discovered the door had lost structural integrity and collapsed on itself when opened. Nice V shaped kink in it. I dont see it as relairable.
I told my Insurance I get numerous mail order deliveries and it could have been any one of numerous carriers. It was no big deal to them knowing who had damaged it. I just discovered the "damage," (if you will) yesterday and filed a claim. They were fine with it. Have to schedule an appointment for a garage door Company to come out.
Erie Insurance. They have always been great. Can not recommend them highly enough. I will absorb the $500 deductible and move on.

It's about (at least) 4 sections, Todd. The bottom strip, (a steel bar w/the rubber cushion on the bottom) which gives the bottom section structural integrity came off. It's a pretty good V shape now. (Entire door.)
Does not look repairable to me. (But) What do I know? 🙄

They'll replace the whole thing. It is usually cheaper and quicker than trying to find matching replacement panels. And the frame/rails may be damaged as well.

If you don't already have, go with insulated panels. Great difference they make.
