What was the strangest way you helped someone that really changed their life for the better!!
Not going to go into all the details but a friend of mine had a gun in his hand and was headed to town to shoot his wife and the guy she was hoin' with!!
Luckily another friend of mine was there one morning about 8:30 AM when this was happening and helped me.
We chained him to a large box elder tree in my backyard with a log chain wrapped around his waist, padlocked tight enough it wouldn't go over his pelvis or his chest. Mike and I left Ralph with a gallon of water and a bag of chips while we went off to rake, bale and mow away a 20 acre red clover field.
We got back home about 9:00 PM and walked out back to that big box elder tree. Ralph apolegised to both of us, thanking both of us for keeping him out of prison!!
Pretty good use of a log chain and a pair of padlocks!!😁

I married a widow lady with two children 45 years ago. I rescued them from the big city and made mountain folk outa them.
She still calls me Honey and the two "kids" call me Dad. And I'm Pop to the five grand children. Don't git much bettern that, does it?

Try to make it short, Worked a a hospital 25 years. Early on in the late 80's night security and about every night we had people to "fight" with. One stormy night, a young lady came in, suicidal, and was a handful to handle. I was there one on one while the staff looked for an institution to place her in. We got to "talking" to keep thins peaceful. Well, we talked the whole shift, going through life and how things are really not fair and how to deal with it when it is not. Sincere talks, hours. I got her food and such and was trying to really help her with issues. We finally got her transferred out and before she left, she hugged me and cried and said she would start believing in herself and become a stronger person. Fast forward six years later,at my daughters graduation, I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around and there she was, She got her life on the positive side and she says "I owe you my life." We teared up and I said we both helped each other that night and will never forget you. She graduated to social service work and to this day continues to help children who have issues and is one of the best so I am told.

On the day his divorce was final,one of my brothers told me and our two other brothers that if he ever said anything about getting married again,to tie him to a tree in the woods until he came to his senses. He was a handsome guy with a weakness for the ladies.He got married three weeks later.

I filled in for the County's ERT team negotiator who was on vacation. The guy inside the house (you cannot see) had injured two Deputies earlier in the day with an improvised explosive device. I knew the gentleman and was able to finally talk him into surrendering before things really went South... He did time in prison, but lived to a ripe old age without any further run ins with the law...

I have found several billfolds and purses over the years and returned them with money and papers still intact, don’t know if that really counts, but it always make me feel good to see their faces light up with relief.

Donna and I, secretly buy a Christmas tree and gifts, for a poor family every year. We find a family in need, and try to make their holiday, a little brighter. Both of us know what it like to be poor and in need.

I didn’t fire a guy who worked for me and got a DUI on business travel.
He turned his issues around.
Maybe he would have been fine either way, but I didn’t want to kick him while he was down.

Was working a search and rescue case one time for a missing kayaker. Every option had been tried to reach the man, locate him, or find some clue about what may have happened. No luck. Boats and helicopters were almost out of search hours for the night, and it was COLD. I found it strange that the man’s cell # kept ringing when called, as in most of these cases phones are just dead or go straight to voicemail. In any case, my gut told me to keep trying it. With nothing else to go on, I decided to just dial that number over and over and over constantly for the next 3 hours. Then, all of a sudden, the guy answered. He had capsized his kayak shortly after launching 12+ hours before, and had been clinging to the hull, unable to get back in. His phone was in a dry-bag in the kayak, but he couldn’t get to it. Turns out, though, that the phone ringing for three hours straight finally motivated him to make one last try….and he got to it. I was able to talk to him about what he could see around him (lights, distances, etc.) and determined he had drifted out of the search area (which is why we hadn’t found him). Was able to vector a helicopter to his area, and had him hold the phone screen up towards the sky. Pilots used night vision, and the phone showed up as a bright, glowing beacon to the goggles.
Afterwards, the guy told us he had given up and was on his way out, but that dang phone wouldn’t quit ringing. Hahaha!
In the end, he went home to his wife and four daughters, and all was well. One of my favorite case stories.

I was a medic in the AF. Assigned to a burn ward. Had a guy I tended to that I used to bring one of those small bottles of alcohol to when he went down for "debreeding". VERY painful procedure. Used to attempt to bring his attitude up with my sometimes squeed sense of humor. Many years later he found me somehow and we build up a relationship that lasts to this day.

I took a loaded gun out of someone's hand so he didn't do himself in-or worse. I suppose that meant he was still there for most of his 8 children after that.

I've become the finder of lost dogs over the past couple years since coming home from overseas.
Had 2 hunting dogs show up at the house, both with collars - watered & fed them dry cat food. Then posted their pic on a couple local facebook pages. The owner got a hold of me, came over to my house and picked them up. His young son was in tears hugging the dogs. Last year I had a new furnace / AC and heat pump installed at the lake house. The owner of the dogs was working on the install, recognized me, and said hello. Once again thanking me for finding his hunting dogs.
A new neighbor was over visiting his property behind mine. I went by to say hello. His dog got loose and ran and ran circles in the area. We spent a couple hours looking for the dog. I saw it couple times as it ran by me. Later that day my neighbor said he had to go home to St. Louis and asked me to keep an eye out for the dog. The next morning the dog was sitting out there at his property. I grabbed and put it in the bed of my pickup which has a topper on it. I gave the dog water and some more dry cat food. I called up my neighbor who drove the 5 or so hours back for the dog. He said - well you and I are now friends for life.
Just the other day, I took my Jeep to the car wash in town. A really cute & friendly puppy was wondering around the car wash. I thought it belonged to the kid washing his truck in one of the other bays and then saw him drive off without the dog. Giving the dog a scratch, I saw it had a phone number on his collar tag. Gave the dog some water out of a water bottle and called the number on the tag. It rang and then went to voicemail. The owner finally picked up on my 5th call. He sent a buddy over to the car wash to pick up the dog. Got the feeling the owner could care less about the dog. It was a nice dog, shook paws, and sat right next my Jeep.

Very long story short. My 6'5" son at 17 years 11 months old dis-invited himself from living in my home. He was heading down the wrong road in a go fast hurry. I had to do the tough love thing to let him learn about life. We still laugh about his sleeping in a Honda Accord at 20 below in Anchorage AK. He had run out of friends parents letting him eat them out of house and home, doing nothing to get a job or even clean up after himself. Everybody was trying to help Lee, except for Lee.
Now, he is 38, a good father to two fine grandsons with a lovely 4'11" wife, great job and has been a wonderful man. We talk at least twice a week and he calls for advice often.
He got on the right path and does the right things for the right reasons.

When I was 2 months old, my life was saved by a blood donor. I did my best to repay that by donating blood. Not sure how many gallons I gave up until they quit taking it because of a couple of meds I take. I hope I made a difference in several lives.

Hurricane Andrew smashed into Louisiana in August 1992 and did tremendous damage near Lafayette. My buddy and I were paramedics in central Georgia. We got a week off of work, and we drove to Lafayette. We camped out in a tent, and we spent the week, using our chain saws, cutting trees off of people's houses for free. We helped a lot of people that week.

My sweetheart Diane had given up on dogs for about seven years. She cried and asked to come home after each visit to a shelter. Eleven years ago I surprised her with little Willie one morning. So much unconditional love Willie gave us and helped my wife with so many kisses during a very dark time. Diane is in Heaven now and about three weeks ago Willie joined her. -------------------------------Ray
