I use a CPAP machine. Check your insurance to see if it's covered.

Cutting all alcohol out made a big difference for me. I used to drink to sleep, now I sleep better without it. There is also a plant that I hear works wonders on getting a good nights sleep, but it is still Federally illegal so I won't mention it.

    Hi Ken

I still have problems sleeping most nights or mornings I think my body just shuts down I get tired just can't sleep some nights

I have had my doc give me pills in the past but honest I never took one .I hate taking meds . I have a few I have to take so I did not want to add any more but at the time I was at the docs any way And ask I don't rember what he even gave me

I retired 9 yrs ago so it's not a big deal to me when I sleep any more when I was working I was a walking zombie some days .

A simple thing like the breat right strips did wonders for me

my nose has never worked right after the crash i was in as a kid I have never had a specialist check it out but at 66 yrs old I guess I Can make it the rest of the way

now my better half thinks different about my sleping habits she still wants me to be a moring person and i dont see that happening is the easiest way to describe it .

She has her own bed room so I have no inpact on her sleeping I even wear a head set so the TV will not wake her

Now With summer finely getting here I am hoping I can get back to a little closer normal routine

Best of luck I hope you find a answer to your problem

Get a sleep study done or get a current one if it’s been a while. and get a CPAP machine if you don’t already have one. Little odd using it the first few weeks. But now I get wonderful sleep. Never wake up and no snoring which my wife loves. Sleep apnea can be dangerous, you can have a heart attack from it. To fall asleep maybe try sleep hypnosis videos on YouTube. Those along with the ASMR sleep videos knock me right out.

i don't know if you take in much of the "sports drinks" Gatorade, Powerade etc. but its my experience[and others] that it definitely will impact your sleep patterns. with my son, the gatorade actually affected him more than coffee when taken in after 5pm. the same goes for any fruit juice with a high sugary content. i got to drinking unsweetened grapefruit juice if i needed something of substance, otherwise it was water in the evenings prior to bed.

A good hard days work, and I sleep like a baby. Then I wake up crying and want my bottle. 😁

Not sure if these are good or not as I have not tried them.

But like you I sleep about the same each night and all I see are Huckabee ads for Relaxium.

Unfortunately the ads have not put me to sleep.

My issues aren't as severe as yours. I use Breathe Right Strips instead of a CPAP - my apnea is only marginal. I used to take melatonin but learned that it can induce restless leg. I switched to two capsules of valerian and now sleep much better.

You might also look into getting a Sleep Number bed. Believe me, it can make a big difference and the expense is worth it.

Weight loss can make a major difference in sleep apnea for many. CPAPs have come under some major criticism and may be contraindicated.

I have a BPAP, but as much as I have tried to force myself to use it, i just can not. Too Claustraphobic.

I had my nose operated on a couple years ago at the insistence/recommendation/referral of my Cardiologist in order to breathe better. (Nose broken a few times, would only pass 20% +/- of required air.) The intention was to start using my BPAP, with the nose only set up. I bought my BPAP out of pocket.

Yes @redneckandy, that certain plant worked wonders for me sleeping. Slept like a Baby. I retire in a few months. Might start sourcing it again.

I'm 6'1", 195lbs. Weight is not an issue.

I get about 5 to 6 hours of sleep a night. Early to bed early to rise. On a few days a month the lack of good sleep will catch up to me and I find myself feeling kind of sick. Like the feeling of a cold or even worse, the flu coming on.

Strangely enough, I will take a nap when this happens and after maybe an hour or so, I awake feeling great. Never have taken any kind of meds for sleep. Just sit down in the oversized leather recliner, put my legs up and my body slightly back. Turn on a movie and doze very quickly. Been sleeping in the recliner for the past 2 years because laying flat in bed has caused back and leg pain no matter what positions I have tried.

...If you want 8-10 hours sleep, and wake up with no "hangover" feeling, ask your Dr. for some Seconal...take 1 and lay down, you'll be asleep in 10 minutes...if you're not, you're not human...I took them for a few months years ago, boy do they work...

Whatever else you may try, get off the diphenhydramine ASAP. That crap's bad for ya!

Diphenhydramine - LiverTox - NCBI Bookshelf
Diphenhydramine is a first generation antihistamine that is used for symptoms of allergic rhinitis and the common cold. It is also commonly used as a mild sleeping aid. Diphenhydramine has not been linked to instances of clinically apparent acute liver injury.

What ever happened to a glass of warm milk before bed?

My wife said she take Zadaphaline??? Something like that. She has chronic insomnia. She sleeps about three to four hours a week, not day, week. We have been to Deborah hospital at least six times for sleep studies. This medication, after trying about a dozen others over the years, works great!!!! Now she sleeps about six hours a night, after forty years, Thank God.

    get a white noise machine

I run a fan on top of my Gun Safe, (by the bed) pointed down at my face while in bed. It makes the "White Noise," sound. 👍

When I bought it and turned it on, I was initially annoyed at how loud it was. Now I like it for the "White Noise," effect.

    I appreciate y'alls input.

*Had not heard that about Diphenhydramine. Will discuss it with my Dr. (I've told them all, I've been taking it. ) No one has mentioned a thing.

    What works for us......

    "dark" the room.

Run a small desktop fan.....to add a slight "drone" sound.....and add room air circulation.

Run "weather sound" at low volume.......my old clock lets me select among six sounds. I like the rolling thunder or waterfalls options.

    Hope this helps.
