OMG, What A Relief.
About 3 weeks ago, it got down to 12° overnight. I had the woodstove going. (And) I got up in the middle of the night, to re-load the woodstove. Not wanting to turn the lights on, I put my hand down towards the wood pile (in the dark) and pushed a pretty good sized Oak splinter straight in to my left forefinger. Not at an angle, where you can see it and dig it out, but straight in, deep. Definitely, Not good. 🤕
I dug at it for at least a week, trying to get it out. (Making a mess out of it.) I opened it up, made it bleed big time and kept squeezing it, hoping to get the splinter to "flush out." Thought I might have got it. (?)
Left it alone for about two weeks. (Difficult.) Well, my finger get getting more and more tender. The wound, healed over. My finger kept getting bigger and bigger. More and more tender. 😮 I knew I wasn't done with it.
Today, in the lunch room, I used the big toenail type clipper I keep in my pocket all the time, to take it down to where the accumulated fluid gushed out. (Sorry.) Instant relief. (Like drilling a toenail/fingernail, after it's gone black to relieve the pressure.)
I squeezed a good amount out. Hoping it flushed the splinter out, with the skin I removed. Instant relief.
Left a pretty good size, deep hole in my finger. 😮 packed it full of prescription Anti-Biotic and did the finger tip industrial band-aide routine on it.
OMG, does it feel better. 👍😁

When I needed help getting a splinter (or "goat head" thorn) our my dad would often use his pocket and comment about it be a "real fence post"🙄

I just remembered this. Hot soapy water works good on puncture wounds. I stepped on a nail once and the Dr. said to soak it in the hottest soap water I could stand.

I've stepped on quite a few nails over the years. A Tetanus shot always came after.
Oh! Almost forgot, a good application of Mercurochrome too! 😁
