Tractor pulls
I enjoy watching tractor pulls. Some of those tractors just boggle my mind as to how they get 4 V-8 motors all in harmony especially when 2 of the motors are sitting sideways. Then, there's the issue of transferring the power to the wheels. Just awesome.
Anyone here have any experience with them?

Went to one about 15 years ago. Huge parade before pull with every tractor know to man almost. Mostly farmers and had the name of their farm on big signs. Funniest thing i saw was little kids competing with souped up lawntractors. It was a real hoot. ------------------Ray

Never been to a live show, sure like to though. What you described would be a ball for me.

I use to pull a Oliver 88 in the 5000 lbs open class. Back when I was pulling the multi V8's were not very common the top classes back then were the Allison engine powered ones. I ran the MSTPA circuit for 2 years managed to take 3rd in points my last year on the circuit in my class

Use to go years ago always enjoyed them skip ahead many years a coworker and his sons had pulling tractors just came up one day in conversation
He use to use the Allison airplane engine like savage mentioned at some point some or or group broke into his barn stole just about every part he had
Best guess they sold for scap probably had no idea what they had stole huge loss to the sport and him
One of his sons was still competing in some modified stock class I don't recall the tractor but he had pushed the old tractor enging well beyond the original hp by 3 or 4x
That was 15 to 20 years ago I have not see him in 10 yrs or so
Like most such sports lots of money and commitment
Considering the cost of each one of the big boy toy hemi blown engines and having as many as they can wedge into a frame
But fun to watch
We use to go to the truck pulls also

Never been to a modern tractor pull event but here in my little town where a lot of Amish farmers live, every Labor Day weekend we have a Horse Pull. It takes place along with the towns Harvest Festival which includes a parade, midway, live music stage, and a Flea Market. It is truly a step back in time!
The horse pulling is sure a sight to see!

Back in the 1950's Dad took us to a tractor pull. One of his patients was entered. Back then they had a sled they hooked to the tractor. Once the tractor started to move people would jump on the sled until there wasn't any room left, then they measured the distance to where he stopped. When they were going by me, I jumped on. I could hear my mother screaming at me the whole distance to the end.
When we got in the car, she read me the riot act all the way home, then I got a butt whupping, and a lecture from Dad.
It was fun though.

I know nothing about the motors or such, but we go to the tractor pulls all the time around here. We have six different county fairs that have a designated tractor pull strips. Pretty cool to watch those beast. Our Salem and Burlington county farm fairs are pretty cool' and bring you back to a simpler time in our lives.

I haven't been to one, but would like to see how well the case 150 steam engine would do.
Pulls a 36 to 40 bottom plow.

Been to several events and a couple around here are serious. I watched them locals pull one night,,and it is a show. Kind of like in the day of drag racing, pouring sand down a rathole moneywise but these "farmers" love doing it.

I had about 150lbs of lead in the garage I had been keeping to make either shot or bullets but never got around to it so last summer I advertised it and a young fellow in his early 20's called about it. when he got to the house he told me he wanted it to makes weights for the front of his lawn tractor he was building for the local pulls. I told him he would have to melt it and make larger bricks as most of it was either sheet lead or sinkers and wheel weights, he took it all anyway and was gonna melt it over a bond fire and make 20lb or 25lb weights I told him it wasn't a good idea to breath the fumes but he didn't seem to care about it to much........

I get a kick out of the children's division using souped up sit down lawn mowers.

Douglas County Colorado Rodeo- they used to have ANTIQUE tractor pulls- and they were a hoot- In some cases the tractor and driver were both in their 70s.

I had an old Fordson tractor that I restored back in the 70’s. I sold it to a guy in Arizona and he used to take it to antique tractor pulls. It was a cool old tractor and I had a lot of fun showing it off to friends and neighbors. I always wanted to drive it in a parade but never did. It was just “yard art” that actually ran!

My neighbor/buddy, has a restored 1920 Armstrong tractor parked at the far side of our pond. Solar lights, light it up at night. I see it pretty much everyday. I just have to turn my head to the left from where I'm typing this, in order to look at it. 👍
I always joke with him that I'm gonna put a few rounds in it. 😁

That's a nice lookin' ol' snag wagon. She's vintage enough it could be a factory installed 1693.
When he starts forward and turns to leave the track after the pull, it has that deep throaty exhaust note like a Cat.

Speaking of 1693s, we finally got that old cabover running. It sat in the same place probably 20 years. Tossed in a couple batteries, about ten gallons of diesel, and I bet it didn't turn over 10 revolutions and popped right off. Horked a couple bird nests out of the pipe, and that was about it.
