Lost one of my goats suddenly
Yesterday I lost one of my beloved goat kids. It's amazing how attached you get to these guys in a week's time by bottle feeding and holding them 4+ times a day. It happened very, very quickly. in the morning I got them all up and fed. By 1pm he didn't want a bottle (very strange from the always-acting-starved goats). By 6 pm he couldn't stand up on his own. And by 6:30 he was gone as I was loading him up to go to the vet.
My heart is destroyed.

No, it's not wet enough here for that to even grow.

You probably should have taken him in first thing. Also I don't know what your climate is but he could have gotten Flash pneumonia.

That's some bad stuff. I've been fighting it for years. This year, it's all out war.
I was told it took seven years of spraying to kill it out. Highly poisonous to all mammals.

Hind sight is 20/20. There was no way to know that just because he wouldn't eat that he was going to die within a few hours. By the time I got a hold of the vet, it was too late already.

When baby animals don't eat that's a bad sign... In the future as soon as a little creature is not eating Treat. Have LA200 or LA300 on hand always.

I remember my wife's mother would give her lambs a little bit of whiskey for treating something. I'm not sure what it was though.

Just my WAG. But goat Kids (and lambs) are very susceptible to Enterotoxemia. Standard practice is to vaccinate them early on. My grand kids lost one a few weeks ago. Their Dad knew better. Just didn't get "aroundtuit". Just a thought. YMMV.

Goats can die from many ailments. Fact of life. A person learns to differentiate between livestock and pets. Same as between pets and family.

Sorry to hear this Randy. Very hard to see something as cute as a young baby goat get sick and die. Those critters have a way of getting into your soft side very easily, even if you are a hardened farmer type.
