I got some baby goats over the weekend
No, they're not just funny looking puppies. They're Nubians!
I had no idea these kids would be so cuddly. Bottle feeding them is a blast!

Just going to use them to keep the underbrush to a minimum. Might train them as pack goats tho. We shall see!

Cingrats on the new pets ?
Over the years my wife has had several pigmy goats and a fewnormal size all were pets only
They were like dogs in a way they loved my wife played with her and followed her around the yard . They would get all excited when she came home from work like a dog missing it's owner
She had one that did not like me a female it always tried to ram me Or butt me when I was not looking . Too funny
it couldn't hurt me but it tried any way

When I was little we always had animals at grandmas house (city) . She had a huge backyard. We got chicks for easter that would go to grandmas, ducks, rabbit, goats, lambs,,,,,
Just about the time each pet reach mature age, they jumped the fence and got away. Grandma would have the police out looking for them now.
We also always had fresh home made Italian sausage, meat ravioli, meat balls,,,,,,,,
Took me a long time to put it together.

Dad's cousin had a farm and raised cows, and chickens. I'd ask him what the animals names were. He told me the dogs and pete the skunk have names, they are pets and workers.
The cows , pigs,and chickens are for food, they don't have names.
I accepted that and understood easily. But was so different at grandmas house, when I did put it together I was devastated.

Goats are hilarious. They are the new dog. I sell more goat feed out of my feed business than cat or dog lol.

There are a few businesses around here that rent goats for land clearing. Put up a temp fence, let the goats eat everything in sight then move the fence and repeat.
Baby goats far exceed the cuteness scale ...................................... 😀

Had my first cabrito in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. Could not believe it is was that good. I order it every time I can find it, which is rare, even in San Antonio.

Joe's post reminded me of this
When I was about 10 yrs old
A older neighbor kid started raising rabbits well of course we had to have one a dollar each . I got one and one of my sisters got one
I called mine checkers (black and white)
Any way after a month maybe two my parents said we should give the rabbits to my great uncle and aunt To take care of them
With sadness in our hearts and eyes we let our pets go knowing we could visit them
Well about a month went by and we got To go see uncle Tud and aunt Ellie and our pets
On arriving I went looking , no rabbits
So I went in to the living room and ask where all the adults were and ask ?
Where's our rabbits ?
My aunt says oh they were real good
That had ate them
I lost all respect for my parents and great uncle that day
a little kid Lied to and our pets eaten for a kid that is devastating
Obvious it left long term effect as now even closing in on 55 years I still think about it
" oh they tasted good " as silly as it seems i still flash back to that sad day

Actually one of the farmers nearby raises goats and has them slaughter by the halel method.
He has Muslims coming from all the big cities nearby and paying a premium price for his got meat.

In the Caribbean they serve curry goat quite often, I thought it was delicious. But every time I’ve eaten it there were bones all through the serving, I always figured they killed it with either a ball bat or through it in from of a truck and ran over it. The quickest way to get a laugh from the waitress was to order it and tell them, I’d like the curry goat boneless please. I guess the bones are cooked with it to give it flavor.
No way am I suggesting you eat your pet goats, but the meat is tasty when prepared right.

similar story from a friend who had a mean billy goat. it was fine to walk up to but if you turned your back on it it would butt you in the behind. I was also known to chew threw anything they used to tie it up. They kept in in the corner of a field and used an old truck topper sitting on blocks for his house.
well my friend came home one day and smelled a pot roast in the crock pot, he asked his wife if she went to town that day to go to the grocery store. she said no and they sat down to dinner. after eating he asked again where she got the roast and she told him it was the goat!! seems she was weeding the garden and the goat had gotten loose and as she bent over to pull a few weeds his head butt met her butt and she went into the vegetables head first. she walked up to the house got a gun and shot him. took him to the shed hung him up and skinned him out and cut him up for the freezer. My friend said he tasted like deer meat and they ate on him for a few months..........

An older one will be stronger, just as mutton is to lamb. An old billy would be worse.
A Basque friend of ours could really cook lamb and presumably kid. He steadfastly maintained if it had been weaned it was too old to call lamb. If you have never had milk-fed lamb cooked the Basque way, you have never eaten meat.

Well, I don't PLAN to eat these goats. And with as cuddly as they are now, I sure don't want to think about it any more, thanks.

You should get them something shiny and cool to climb on. I think they prefer Ford Mustangs, at least my brothers goats did.
