UPDATE Shoulder replacement
It looks like a total left shoulder replacement is in my fairly immediate future . We have done the injection thing but I can only get them every 4 months. Even with pt it is not getting much better. So , who has had one and what kind of recovery time etc am I looking at?
So I had my appointment with the cutter today . After introduction his first statement was " I looked at the ct scan and you have a miserable shoulder" . So , total reverse replacement and repair to rotator cuff . Bones are worn down and will have to be built up . No idea what that entails . Surgery will be sometime middle to late August due to vacation schedule, his and my wife's, lol .

I had a rotator cuff repair twice, which is not as major, and recover time was probably 8 weeks to move freely. Then another 8 weeks to regain MOST of the strength. It's amazing how fast you lose muscle when you can't move that arm for 6 weeks.
I say probably because that was 20+ years ago. It was a long haul recovery for sure!
Best of luck to you!

My BIL, Bobby, just had his done five weeks ago. Said he feels great and is back working in his home remodeling business. He is 63.

BIL had his done after a incident a work. Covered under workmans comp. Back to work light duty for 4 weeks and then 6 weeks later and inured again.
Fixed again . Doc said, not much to work with, and he would would have only 80% back. His company want's to pay him a workmans comp claim for the 20%.
Only $ 50,000, he's only 55, we're thinking this could be worth more $$$
This was an injury from Work, not wear and tear, over the years.

Local guy has had both of his shoulder joints plus knee joint replaced and he has done well. Just do the PT like they say.

Never did, but had a knee replacement. From that, I would say find the very best surgeon you can, the best PT you can get and work your buns off.

Had right shoulder replaced. No longer original equipment.6 wks PTand about 6 mo. to recover full strength.
Just do the PT and don't try to be a hero. Let your body heal at a normal pace.

Had right shoulder replace 10 (?) years ago; can't remember much but I was not out of action long.
Do the PT, use it lightly so it doesn't get stiff and you'll be glad you did.
Mine was from a high school football injury and I put up with limited mobility for too long.

I had my left shoulder total replacement a couple years ago. I fell off the bottom step of a ladder and pretty much had crushed it. I had no choice. I did all the rehab and got back full motion. I have nearly full lifting strength, but reaching up I can't do much. Reaching a gallon of milk from the top shelf is about my limit. I can still pick up 50 pound bags, but can't put them overhead. I had previous surgery on both shoulders before which probably didn't help.
I wish you all the luck I can.

I believe @AdamsQuailHunter just had this done a while ago. You might reach out to him, I'm sure he'd be willing to discuss it with you.

If it goes as poorly as my hip replacement, you're in for much pain and disappointment. I was supposed to have rotator cuff repair after my hip was up to 100% capability. Four years later, hip @ 50-75% and shoulder repair no longer even considered.
My thoughts on PT: It's an 'out' for Doctors. If things don't go well, the DR can blame the outcome on too little/too much PT effort.

"pulsnarnc" - you are welcome to my arm sling and hip-rest thing if you like. Private mail me your UPS shipping address and I will ship the stuff to you.
My surgery was very extensive - reverse, total shoulder replacement - and they meant TOTAL. Metal rod - some kind of plate and bunches of screws joining things together. I can reach up high enough to get something from the freezer compartment of the refrigerator - but not into the cabinet above it.
Best Regards - AQH

"pulsnarnc" - a couple of things for you to consider - I learned them the hard way. When putting shirts on and taking them off -- its first on and last off for the shoulder with the surgery done on it. Also, when taking the shirts off - pull at the collar or neck of a tee shirt -- not at the bottom.
Best Regards - AQH

Watching and reading this post my self. I have shoulder surgery coming up. After an MRI on 6/15, the doctor will know if he can repair the rotator cuff or if it will be a reverse shoulder install.

Me too, HPD, on my right shoulder. Scheduled to go under the knife 7/19. Luckily, things aren't as bunged up in there as what AQH and Pulsarnc are having to go through, hopefully yours isn't either. The doc said there are 3 or 4 small problems to correct, a couple little tears in the meniscus and a bone spur or two. He said it'll be easier to heal at 63 rather than 73 so it'd be better to get 'em done now. Gonna put a crimp in my fishin'!
Not to be indelicate, but y'all better be practicing your 'paperwork skills' with your other hand, if you get my drift.
