First week of retirement.
Just finshing my first week of retirement from the retail world.
WOW, it is nice.
Going to keep on working in my shop, might even make it a little bigger.
So far, remodeled a 28 X 20 wooden tool shed into a chicken coop. The younger son, Josh, da' wife and I fenced off a little over a 1/2 acre and now we have 33 layin' hens. Least there are 33 chicken, might be a rooster or two in there. Been awhile since we ran chickens. Oh yeah, got 3 ducks too. Josh says they will eat more garden bugs then chickens.
Started making a couple more growing beds. Lesia has got 2 banquet tables with all of her seedlings. Going to add a little more space in the garden.
Josh cut down 5 of the apple trees. They were about 30+ years old, dwaft kind and no matter how we pruned, last few years, not so good. So he was cutting them down, I was cutting them up. Run a chainsaw for a couple of hours and your body will tell you just how old and soft you have become!
Got a heart check up in the morning, stop at TSC and Home Depot, come home and see if the rain is going to hold off so I can break some more area for the garden.
Hell's bells, I might even get some trigger time in with this here new found freedom!!!!!

Soon be 9 years for me. Whenever I drive by that place, I roll the window down and holler " Send my check!"

Now they will go by fast. Ive got 23 years of those good years after 37 for the same employer.

It just dawned on me. I retired 23 years ago. Holy crap time flies when you are having fun. 😁

Coming up on 10 years for me...
Take care of yourself, exercise daily and have a basic plan for the day. Try not to make major decisions until you get settled into the new normal. Try not to let yourself get caught up in too many new entanglements or obligations. It is amazing how folks think retired people have nothing to do.
Take the opportunity to learn new things and stay engaged in the good things around you.....
You worked hard all those years....enjoy this new season of your life..... Congratulations Sir !!!

Close to ten years for me
After the first year got excited to do what and when i wanted i then started pacing my projects no hurry
but sadly i have went a bit to far on stretching them out

Just start looking for another job. I'm 14 years and 7 days past retirement and 12 years and 7 days into my second career.
PLUS 1000 acre farm and assorted 'other' pass times.

I still get up at 5:30 or thereabouts. But it's only been 3 years. You will find lots to do and if you let yourself you'll have fun.

Looking forward to my second career. But I think I will wait until August or September to start my new career. I haven’t had a summer off since I was 9 years old .

A friend of mine asked me a few years back what being retired was like and I said " Remember when you were a kid and it was the first day of summer vacation? Well it's like that every day". 😀

I ws going to retire in 22 days but since I bought a new rifle, the one I posted about, me thinks it is wise to work for one to two extra weeks before I step out for good.

After reading this, I've decided I don't want to retire. I'm doing all that plus working already!

11 years as of May 2nd. Don't know how I had time to work all those years.

those first few months were a little crazy, I would wake up every morning at same time 4;30 am, and not hear the alarm, first thing I thought of was I am late for work, and scramble to get up, only to realize I didn't have to go to work, it was still hard to lay back down and go back to sleep. Now I don't even hear the wife get up anymore and sometimes sleep till 8:30 !!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations. Now go see this beautiful country. You can start in South Jersey. My wife has this huge honey do list, waiting, JUST for you. LOL. I have maybe two or three years left. I sold the one business, and now am getting ready to sell the other. I might stay on just long enough, for the new owner to adjust to everything. I told him I would give him 6 months to a year, Three days a week. What really sucks is, I really don't want to retire. I enjoy the business, and being with the guys everyday. When I do move, I have a part time gig set up, working for a coroner. I will be picking up bodies from houses, nursing homes, Hospitals or accident victims'. I have no problem doing this, since I did it many times as an EMT.

I retired from corrections 11 years ago and would have stayed longer, but in that business, you get out as soon as you can. I have stayed busy on the farm other hobbies.

I've a close friend who was in that line of work for some years.
He said that, depending on one's own mental makeup, after a given number of years.........it will start to become soul-crushing.

One of the weird effects that retirement has had with me is that I now treat weekdays like weekends and weekends like weekdays.
Life is a lot less crowded this way!! 😁

First morning my wife was retired, she sat down with her mug of coffee, sighed and said, "this is vastely underated. I should have done it years ago."

Pace yourself. Don't over do it and hurt yourself or wear out too soon. At same time don't totally relax and do nothing, because then when you want to do something will no longer be able to.
