P-17's are nice rifles. I think they shoot as good as a 03, a bit bigger and more heavy but good guns. They will hold an extra round in the mag because the gun was designed for the brits and the 303. The cock on cloesing hampers the trigger but it can be converted.

Lots of nice big game guns were built with them. Very strong action.

    I didn't even suspect it.

Don’t lots of rifles do that?

OR maybe I’ve been doing things wrong all this time.

Little know fact is Alvin York used one and the AEF was armed about 70% with them. The Danish still use them in Greenland on their Sled Patrol which is one of the hardest patrols around. The used them for Polar Bears, they are also armed with 10mm Glocks.

I ran into one in Afghanistan and a few in Iraq.

There is a P-17? Is that like a Webley?

No, it is a WWII British Airplane.

just to 'pick knits', there is no such thing as a "p-17", there is a "p-14' and a M-1917"

Similar to the 1903 Springfield extractor. The 1903 has a magazine cut-off which was supposed to remain engaged until ordered otherwise by an officer. Prior to that order, it was to be used as a single shot. It was to avoid the troops "wasting ammunition"!

And, Mike, not to pick nits, but it's nits, not knits.
