What is the big deal about a stupid private sub going splat at 12,000 feet? A billionaire and his son and a couple of other dudes got mushed. Why is there such a wide spread coverage of this?
One would think Ukraine, China/Taiwan, inflation and the Biden Crime Family would be a heck of a lot more important.

You could say the same thing about the Challenger and Columbia, boost. People are interested in the u usual. Titan was a bold attempt to bring the Titanic to a wider range of visitors. Readers put themselves ritually in that situation and some are thinking about things they haven’t considered previously.
More people will read about it than will read about Ukraine, creating a monetary incentive to report it. You’ll notice the headlines don’t read ‘billionaires go splat’, which, while accurate, will not create as much demand.

Avoiding stories about the Biden crime family is the #1 priority of "news" outlets. They'd dwell on "Dog Barks at Strangers" before they'd mention Biden's crimes.

This story incorporates a lot of dynamics that draw interest.
Greed, Ignoring Peers, Technology, Self-Indulgence, Fatalistic Drama, The Titanic, a (slim) Chance for Survival/Rescue, etc. etc.
I found it quite interesting to read about all the various issues in play.

I would imagine its connection to the Titanic is the big draw. If they were searching somewhere else around the world for new plant life on the ocean floor, it probably would have got one days coverage and little more.

I suppose five people, one a billionaire going splat is just the sensational story the MSM needs to keep their talking heads asking stupid questions from a plethora of so-called experts. At 12,000 feet, the compression ignition of the air would happen in milliseconds and the millions of pounds of water pressure would turn a body to jelly so fast the brain would never realize it happened.
I am saddened by their deaths but life is not infinite.

It seems that misdirection is a politician's go-to tactic........and the media gleefully plays along, in order to rake in advertising $$$$$.

The easier the topic, the more people will chime in. A sunken sub is easy to talk about. It's easy to understand.
Talking about Ukraine or China or debt ceilings or the lack of Conservative leadership is complicated by comparison. And while we can all talk about those things too, it's just easier to talk about subs. And chili.

I read an article by James Cameron. (Yes, of Titanic fame.) He is also a Submersible designer and enthusiast. He designed a Submersible that went to the depths of the Marianas Trench, the deepest point of the Ocean. (3 times deeper than the Titanic.)
He relayed that he had communicated to Rush/Oceangate several times that Carbon Fiber is great for Internal Pressure (like scuba tanks, etc.) but fundamentally flawed when it comes to External Pressure. (Like that, that the Titan was undergoing.) It develops microscopic cracks everytime it goes down and comes back up. A ticking time bomb, if you will.
A lot of People in the Submersible Community attempted to warn them. They went so far as to sign a letter with the 30 leading Submersible Designers/Operator's cautioning them in their approach. Their Head of their Marine Division cautioned them that they were not adequately testing their design. (And) Was summarily Fired. He sued for "Wrongfull Termination," and Won. He also saved all his correspondence warning Oceangate, prior to his firing.
This Co. (Oceangate) is going to get sued into Oblivion. IMHO.
*You don't think the passengers on board, have some High Powered Attorneys, or their Families?
I also think that the various Government entities that spent Beau-Coup $$ in the Search/Rescue Operation, should go after this "For Profit," Co. Instead of Taxpayer's (You and I.) footing the Bill.
