A train derailment into the Yellowstone River near Twin Bridges Road between Reed Point and Columbus has led to the closure of parts of the Yellowstone and Stillwater Rivers, at the request of Stillwater County officials.

Asphalt and sulfur is what is being reported. Not great but could have been a helluva lot worse. Bob

That near bridge abutment appears to be knocked off kilter. Cause or effect, I wonder.

Wow, it will be awhile before they get that line opened up again. when enlarging the picture the bridge looks pretty old. Anyone hear what railroad it was? I know the BNSF runs through Montana.

In a news story it was said the bridge gave way causing the derailment.
Gets me to wondering if last year’s flood caused some unnoticed issues and this years run off was the straw that broke the camels back and the center abutment shifted or gave way.

Saboteurs have been infiltrating our country for years at the Mexican border and to a lesser extent from Canada. All these train derailments,forest fires, truck fires under overpasses where they creat the most havoc and disruption are just coincidences. Yepper, what am I bid for my ocean front property in Arizona??

UPDATE: As of 2:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon, the Montana Department of Environmental Quality is monitoring the air and water monitoring both at the collapsed bridge and downstream, officials from Stillwater DES said in an update on their Facebook page. My Dad did alot of RR repair work back in he day. Even back then he said they never spent a dime on maintenance as they should have.

I'd sure like to agree........but these days I'm very suspicious of many "inspections".
I think the quote from 1984 may apply......"Who watches the watchers?"
