The best indicator I have about solar flares seems to affect my indoor TV antenna. I lose a lot of channels when our sun is acting up. Lately, it happens a lot!

Had a power failure this afternoon, probably not a solar flare. A primary wire broke and set the right-of-way on fire about a mile from us. Power Co. had it back on in about 1 1/2 hours. House temp went up a couple of degrees. Linemen are our heroes all year long.

IIRC, few years back someone posted a web site where you could watch activity of outer space. It was very busy and mind boggling to watch,so much activity. Very cool.
