Explain this to me
So I thought I'd do a quick bore sight of the AR. It has a SIG Romeo 4S red dot on it.
I placed the bore laser in the muzzle of the rifle and turned it on. Nice bright clean red dot pointed on the wall, aprx. 15 yds away.
When I look through the red dot sight, the red laser dot is very dim and has a tail like a comet in the sky. The laser dot appears this way rather the red dot sight is on or off. Never had issues with any regular scope in past and this is my first time doing a red dot sight. Why is it doing this?
Looking through the red dot, everything else is focused, bright, crisp and clear.

My right eye is pretty bad now and I see the same thing with my red dots. Mine are EoTechs.

Well Ricci, I think you got it right. It's US.
Just tried it again tonight, and no issues. Able to see the laser dot fine with no break up. Was able to see the red dot sight is lined up with the laser dot. So, I should be on paper at 25 yds. and work it out from there.
Sure sucks getting old.

Same thing happened to me when I got my first red dot sight. I thought it was broken, but before I sent it back, did a little research. Seems if you have any astigmatism, it will “smear” the dot a bit.
Here’s the test I used to confirm. Use your phone and take a picture of the dot through the sight. Then look at the picture. If it shows the dot nice and round and crisp (versus what you see when you look through)……the “smearing” problem is your eyes.

30 yrs ago I had lasicis surgery on my eyes
It was living he... for a couple yrs the star burst effect on any light was beyond describing serious I w as wearing two pair of the darkest sun glasses I coul find to just drive to work some one hit the brakes and I would just go blind with out the glasses it took several months to calm Don to I did not need the glasses but still sucked over the years it has calmed Down some but red dot and Lazer lights still look like a star exploding to me I have adjusted some what so I can use them but forget a nice crisp dot
A lot more to the story but one of the worst decisions I ever made was having that done
Astigmatism does have a huge impact on such sights also
I use to love to shoot but after that surgery my interest in shooting fell off big time I still like to shoot now its just ammo wasting i gave up getting any nice groups

Well I had a similar experience couple of years ago but not with a red dot sight. I was out side at night and when looking at the moon I noticed what looked like a half moon on each side of the moon. Even when I took my glasses off I still seen this phenomenon when I looked at the moon. It kind of freaked me out so I made an appointment with an optometrist. Turned out I just needed my glasses adjusted and now I only see one moon’ Lol. Ya getting older sucks.

Another thing that may help is to blink your eyes a couple of times to deposit a thin film of liquid on the surface of your eyes.

I put my reading glasses on and "they " disappear. Believe me when it first happened I was so pissed and thought my 500 red dot was junk.

I have to wear reading glasses when looking thru almost all of my scopes when sighting them in, otherwise they are fairly blurry. I can see thru them good enough when hunting though. I asked my eye doctor about it, and he told me it's how your brain perceives things that makes your eyes play tricks on you.

I wished I had practiced shooting with both eyes closed when I was young.

I has the same thing happen with a new SIG Romeo MSR green dot a week ago. Thought maybe it came with a weak battery or I put it on backwards. Turned it off and on again and it was fine.
