    Yeah, not good.

That's how they do it here also, to include YNP policy of not fighting any natural caused fires.

Out here we only do controlled burns when they are guaranteed to cause a catostrophe. Why should you easterners be any different? Try to catch up Ricci, the forest service knows best. Last year we had a controlled burn that caused the largest burn in NM history. It was for our own good, and the better management of our forests.

A buddy of mine used to work for the Forest Circus and he said on his district the definition of a controlled burn was one where nobody got killed. Here locally they had one get away this spring. It only burned 20 acres outside the lines but holy moly did they throw a bunch of money at it. At one point they had 2 helicopters and umpteen dozen engine crews on it.

oh ya , this spring FT McCoy decided to do a control burn on one of their firing ranges , just so happened it was the hottest , dryest and very windy days we had that spring, Red flag warning agaisnt any burning had been posted by the DNR but that didn't matter and they went ahead with the burn ,

took 3 or 4 days to get it under control, they had to call in help from several fire departments , do air drops , ect.

Nice to know the Funny Circus operates the same no matter where they are.

    "Controlled Burn"

HMMM, always somewhat questionable terminology. Like combat where plans only last until the first bullet flies, controlled burn plans are only good until the first match is lit.
