Others Couldn't Run a 1911
My oldest grandaughter just went trough the firearms training and qualification testing for her CO POST certification. Part of the physical / firearms test was to run to a barricade, pick up a handgun found lying on the ground, then use it to fire one shot using each one-hand hold through a 6-inch opening hitting a target on the other side. She says it was too easy, but most of the other candidates failed because the gun was a 1911 and 100% of their training had been on a Glock.

When we went from Wheel guns to Glocks some limp wristed the semiauto and had FTFs.

In my opinion the 1911 is the greatest hand gun ever made. Once you master it it will do its part.

If it's so great, how come folks can't just pick it up, unfamiliar, and be proficient with it like a Glock?

Proficiency comes from familiarity of the gun and from staying current with practice. Never heard of a gun being advertised as comes complete with proficiency and two magazines.

I have acquired a number of handguns over the years and although I don't get to shoot a lot, my old Colt 1911 is the easiest to control of them all. Surprising to me, given the massive increase in power compared to my 25 ACP pistols. Kudos to old John Browning.....

That is an excellent training drill. I attended a training with a similar drill. 6 different pistols, each with an issue.
The drill was to clear the issue and fire three shots on target at 10 yards in 10 seconds, one right after the other.. The individuals who experienced the most difficulties were only familiar with striker fired pistols. The lone 1911 and a couple others with safeties threw them.....
It is good to be very proficient with one firearm, but a working familiarity with all types may be a necessary skill to possess...

I can fire any handgun except a matchlock. Cause I don't smoke so I can't light the fuse.

Famality with every type of firearm is a necessity in Law Enforcement.
As an FTO it was amazing to me to have a rookie that did not know how to safely unload any firearm we came across.
Unbelievable.
