"Today I voted to repeal the Biden Administration's student loan cancellation proposal because we simply cannot afford to add another $400 billion to the national debt," Manchin said in the statement.
"There are already more than 50 existing student loan repayment and forgiveness programs aimed at attracting individuals to vital service jobs, such as teachers, health care workers, and public servants," he continued. "This Biden proposal undermines these programs and forces hard-working taxpayers who already paid off their loans or did not go to college to shoulder the cost. Instead, we should be focusing on bipartisan student debt reforms that reduce the cost of higher education and help all Americans."

The Senate is set to vote on a GOP-led bill on Thursday to overturn student-debt relief and end the payment pause. It already passed the House.

Why (?) Should Taxpayer's be forced to pay for College for those not related to them? (Or even those related to them.)
What about those of us who joined the Military in order to save/put $$ aside and pay our own way through College. (5 years Army here.) Anyone gonna pay me back for that?

What happened to America? We live in a country where a President can decide to spend $400 billion dollars and Congress has to muster a 2/3 vote to stop him? This is madness.

Hate to get involved in politics but here goes.
I remember when Joe Manchin and his wife ended their vacation early and came home to comfort the families of the trapped miners in W. Virginia. I believe he truly loves the people of W. Virginia despite what some say. Many times I think he tried to do the right thing.
On the other hand you could have the misfortune to live in NY STATE that was governed by the TYRANT Andrew Cuomo. I listened to his Fireside chats with much dismay. He met with Silver and Skelos behind closed doors in the dark of night and jammed the NY SAFE (unsafe) Act of 2013 down our throats without any input from "We the people". And then there are the thousands that died in nursing homes because of his policies. There is much, much, more but GB does not have enough bandwidth to cover it all. He finally showed his colors and I hope he rots in hell.

They are lying when they say it would cost 400 billion dollars, the figure is closer to 1.3 trillion dollars. This was put out by the accounting office a few months ago.
