I was surprised at how many people have no idea who Oppenheimer is.

The man who was responsible for ending the war with Japan and saving many American lives. Truman made the right decision on using the weapon. There would have been mass American casualties if we would have been forced to invade the Japanese home islands.

"There would have been mass American casualties if we would have been forced to invade the Japanese home islands."

I never could figure out why they though we should invade Japan. We could have cut them off from the rest of the world for four or five months, and the Japanese would have begged us to come in after they ran out of nearly everything, including fuel and food. They import almost everything. We had already destroyed most of their armed forces.

Just watched it. Could have trimmed an hour off pretty easy. I thought it was ok, a bit long and boring but I would say 6 out of 10. The 5 others with me all thought it sucked.

l'm glad we made an example of our Asian brothers. Truman was a great President and what we needed to end WWII. He would have NEVER wasted a million American lives invading Japan. He was planning on using Chemical Weapons to defeat Japan before lnvading. He said they would cease to be a civilization. He was prepared to kill them ALL. In the early 2000s l worked at sites where these Chemical Weapons were stored. We were building lncinerators to burn these weapons..

Robert 0ppenheimer as paid to build the A bomb. lts use was above his pay grade

btw-Reason folks don't know about Oppenheimer is because HISTORY is no longer taught in school

While the bomb killed over one hundred thousand it actually saved many more lives than that by ending the Japanese peoples willingness to continue to fight.

We toured the Missouri (the ship where the Japanese signed their surrender) when we were in Pearl Harbor earlier this summer

Yes after both bombs were dropped.

We weren't fighting the Japanese people; we were fighting the "Warrior Class" which controlled the government. They felt obligated to fight to their last breath and to lead the country to annihilation if necessary. The shock of the extent of the devastation of the two bombs finally made the futility of continuing the fight obvious to the people in positions of power and the surrender was made.

If we had not dropped the bombs post-war Japan would have been a shell of itself and the post-war recovery would have been long and hard.

Dropping the bombs was in the best interests of both countries.
