My brother and his wife are going through some more tough times.
Here is the email we got from his wife today.
John update
John is doing OK. I didn't tell anyone, because I am so overwhelmed, but he is back in the hospital, going on five days now we're hoping he's going to get out Thursday. This time we took him to VA over in Gainesville. I forgot what a nice experience a teaching hospital can be. He has felt very comfortable there. He's had a problem with the fluid buildup around his heart. They actually had to defibrillate him twice because he went into afib. He said it was the most painful thing he's ever experienced. So they ended up putting him on, I can't remember the name of the drug, but it is used to treat gout. It is working and the fluid buildup around his heart has decreased, and he stopped having the afib (vagal response) which was the reason they had to flatline home - four times. He doing much better now. He actually just got moved out of ICU today and he's up walking around on his own and doing a lot better.
They ended up inserting a heart catheter in to drain the liquid around his heart and they believe the liquid around his heart which was obviously swelling started causing the vagal response. Everything is under control now and he is doing so much better. So now the goal is to get him healthy enough to ultimately have the bypass surgery. He has not been diagnosed with congestive heart disease, The doctors believe it is a result of just a lot of aggravation around the heart muscle, along with the perforation of the artery. I keep saying "We're gonna be fine, we're gonna be fine" but it feels like we are wading through fields of shit trying to find the place where we get to be fine. You know it's only been three weeks today since John had the heart attack and three weeks and a couple of days since I was diagnosed with cancer, but it feels like it's been six months!

Saw the urologist today and the pathology shows that the cancer has grown into the muscle of the bladder wall. Doc is recommending the removal of the bladder, and build a new one out of a small section of the small intestine. Then I will have a small bag (they call it a rosebud) on the outside for urine. The other option is chemo and radiation, but he said that is not my best option because of size and location and that I had a greater (most likely) chance of having to use a catheter the rest of my life. Not horrible now, but may be a terrible burden as I get older. I meet the surgeon tomorrow and will know more after that.

Your family is in my prayers this morning Bubba.
My wife is a 15 year survivor of bladder cancer and thankfully still going. Back then, our options were about the same as your SIL and we chose complete bladder removal without having a new one made. A urostomy was done and she has to wear a bag. It has been a hard road for her psychologically and physically, but she has overcome and lives a good life cancer free!

Thank you all for the kind words and prayers. John and I have always been very close. This whole ordeal for both of them has to be the worst part of their lives. Hopefully, they can overcome the obstacles to their happiness. The worst part for me is that they are so far away.
