Yellow Mustard?
The hot dog thread got me rememberizerating...
When I was a little nipper, the only mustard in the house - and darn near anywhere else - was French's Yellow. That WAS mustard, as far as I knew. Had a truck load of American cheese and French's on Wonder bread sammiches for lunch back then.
One day, I discovered "Chinese" mustard. Ladled it onto something like it was good old yellow. Thought my head was gonna explode. But that led me down the Mustard Road. Learned there were English, German, French and lots more kinds. Then there were those TV ads for Grey Poupon. (Folks from other countries laugh at French's like Crocodile Dundee: "That's not mustard. THIS is mustard.")
Right now, I have four or five kinds in the fridge. And the ONLY time I use French's is on a hot dog or a soft pretzel. Gotta make me one'a them sammiches sometime soon...

I remember those days from the '50's, Rocky Raab. I remember trying something new when I was a little older - Mr. Mustard. It was great. Now my favorite is Inglehoffer Sweet Hot - love that stuff.

French's yellow mustard , is still the best. That's what I had on my 4 burgers, the last couple days.
Good buns, thin sliced sweet onions, thin sliced Tomatoes, a bunch of lettuce on em', some melted American and Swiss cheese...........................

Hickory Farms honey mustard is real good
Inglehoffer stone ground on a slice of roast beef is fantastic.

Without looking, I believe we have Dijon, Spicy Brown, French's, Honey, French's, and a bottle of Durkee's Famous Sauce, which is a mix of mayo and mustard. Plus a couple of squeeze packets from the Chinese buffet. Just looked. Yup.
Next time we shop at the AF Base, I'm going to pick up a jar of English Stone Ground or some hot German style.

I'm with Rocky, I have a ton of different mustards to choose from.
Different ones for different applications.

Everyone has different tastes. there probably is no best, but each of us has their own favorite. Lots of good ones out there.

That abomination in the French's bottle is not mustard. Real mustard is not the same color as a new school bus.

I made my own a few times. There's recipes on line. I had to go to a mid Eastern import store to get brown mustard seed. The yellow kind was in the regular grocery stores. No matter how I did it, it came out like rocket fuel. Think horseradish x 100. I quit. I prefer the coarse brown mustard. Wife likes the yellow kind.

French's Yellow for potato salad. Mixed with some Miracle Whip, dill pickle juice, a dallop of honey, and lots of hard boiled eggs for sure! 😋
For some reason that I'm not really sure why, my use of mustard has declined quite a bit over the last few years. The old bottle in the refrigerator tells the tale quite well. Miracle Whip is also not in use too much either. I throw away more than I use anymore. Seems we go through ketchup like it was a crack addiction!! YUP! That sweet sugary stuff is addictive!

I use very little mustard some times on hot dogs or a dab on a hamburger on rare occasions
I think I was burned out as a kid eating mustard sandwiches couple slices of bread and spread heavy with mustard.

I've become addicted to a new mustard. It's called Simply Supreme Honey Mustard made by Woeber's. It's Gluten Free and all-natural. The only issue I have with it is the nozzle is small and the mustard is thick, so it takes a lot of hand strength to squeeze out a dollop or two. But it is totally worth it on any sandwich.

That pickle juice trick is great for potato salid and egg salid. You hit the nail on the head.

Pickle juice is my secret ingredient in Bloody Marys, too. Two parts dill, one part B&B juice.

I enjoyed the post but I am betting that one or more of the mods probably thought that over the course of time we have had an inordinate number of hot dog discussions. Kind of like beans or no beans Chile and other often discussed subjects.
Getting back to the original post, I like most mustards and also have a few types on hand.
@notnow, Every few years Judy and I grind up a bunch of fresh horseradish and it's potency is governed by when the vinegar is added. Perhaps mustard seed is the same way. Maybe an online search can clear that up. Bob

Pretty astute of you @BobJudy, I'd bet you are correct, if anyone else is wondering do a search of "hot dog" and you can see how many times the topic has come up and quite often it is started by the same few posters... and for the record the topic of mustard has also been beat to death... is the fact that we have so few number of younger members possibly because most discussions aren't anything new?
I don't know the answer to that since I'm also older, but Alzheimer's hasn't set in yet so I do notice that the same discussions pop up over and over again... 🙄

That's probably true of a lot of subjects. To be honest, I'd never seen a dedicated thread on mustard here. Chili? Oh, Lordy yes - and I shan't start another one. (When's the last time you heard somebody use shan't?)
But if you want to talk about Linux... LOL!

I closed it. We have been over hot dogs and you love slaw on them a hundred times. The horse is dead.
