Just curious if any of you have had to do a HVAC change out within the last 6 months or so and what the approximate cost was. I know prices can vary pretty significantly in different parts of the nation and just curious about the variance. Here in NE Arkansas, it seems that a 4 ton 16 seer duel fuel (heat pump with propane backup) change out will go from about $14k to $17k depending on brand. My HVAC guy is telling me that there will be new changes in 2025 and the costs will be going up significantly.

All electric central HVAC, both units inside and out replaced about 15 months ago in North Texas used original duct work ran just over 6 thousand and I believe it was a 3.5 ton unit 16 seer if I remember correctly.

Thankfully, I am not needing one and hope I do not need another, just curious about regional price variances. We had a 4 ton 18 seer Trane heat pump dual fuel change out in 2017 for right at $14k for the main floor of our home and then right after the first of this year a 3.5 ton 16 seer Trane pump dual fuel at our weekend place/future retirement home for $12k. Enough is enough of that stuff....lol

I had a 2.5 ton split changed out just before the pandemic and was about 4200.The same change out now cost substantially more.

Every HVAC guy I have ever talked to has used some sort of high pressure sales tactic like your guy and “2025”.
My thoughts, if a business has to pressure me to immediately decide, my decision is not to use that business.

Ours is at least 25 yrs old next year I know it's time to put it out of its misery .not looking forward to the shock of replacing it

We are in the same situation. Already started looking into a replacement. It is going to be expensive because we were told that not only does the unit outside have to be replaced but all the piping and condenser on the furnace needs to be replaced because of new types of refrigerant.

We had to replace both the upstairs and downstairs A/C units one year apart. It was about $8000 each time. This was several years ago.....so I'm sure it would be more now. I was shocked to find that the "old kind" was no longer made and they couldn't fix either one because of the required new systems they make you update to. I was ready for a $3000 repair at the most.....but NOOOOO.

We have two A/C units in our house, we just replaced the smaller one that services the master bedroom/master bath (3 ton) and it was $4850.

I hear ya........as I lost a $1000 fan motor last August. You'd think they'd last longer than 15 years. 😐
For years I've kept multiple spare contactors and start/run capacitors for good reason.
Heck........I even have a spare 5 ton dual-capacity compressor......and now a spare fan motor.
Yeah......it gets REAL hot around here.

just came from physical therapy, the AC is out in their exercise room and the therapist was telling me, they were told the part they need to fix it will take 11 weeks to get!!! I ask him what did they order, winter??????????????

If you are handy with mechanical/electrical it is smart to keep an extra capacitor and contactor around just in case.Many residential calls were bad capacitor,contactor or stopped up filter.

I just bought a portable unit for 400 bucks and it will cool the entire upstairs of my home, save for my master bedroom and I have a second portable unit for that that was about the same cost. So, for about $800 you could be in the cool, if you go that route.
Also, I see minisplit systems on Amazon for about 800 that will do about the same sqft-age.

I forgot about the filter.........as cleanliness is next to Godliness when taking care of HVAC equipment. Long ago I decided to use the best MERV rated filter that my fan motor can support. I decided on a MERV 11 filter.........as a denser filter would have required a fan motor upgrade.
Point is........to keep ALL the dust/dirt out of the air handler system.......and OFF the evaporator and fan blades.

I won't go into what equipment cost, as some of you might have a heart attack, but The prices of equipment has gone up a tremendous amount for us this past year. We had a 15% increase in January, then a 25% increase in May. 35% in less than 6 months. This is due to lack of materials and labor, due to the pandemic. Parts have not been a real issue, as we stock them well ahead of time. Getting coils has been our big issue. We can no longer get an 80% furnace due to regulations. I think I am down to three of them left. The newer furnaces are also coming out, with the Bluetooth interface boards.

I was asking for my son. He bought a home knowing the hvac unit was 18 yrs old and is going ahead and replacing it now. He got quotes for a 3.5 ton unit ranging from $7,800 to $11,500 depending on the brand. For natural gas furnace and not a heat pump.
