Small town America.
Just got back from going to the bank. When I was passing the barber shop, there were two young boys pulling up to get their hair cut. Not on a bicycle, not in a car or skateboard, Both on horseback. Living in a rural, backwoods American town, this sure has it's perks. It is not unusual to see people going to the store, post office and even the barber shop on Horseback. I always see two Navy Seals that live in town, riding down main street, with a big American flags hooked to their saddles. Saturday night movies at the town hall park, Parades, folks enjoying an ice cream at the little town center, people playing checkers and chess at the American legion pavilion all summer. Yup, give me this little small town living over a city, any day of the week!!!! I wouldn't trade our small slice of heaven for anything. This is my biggest fear moving to Georgia. I hope I can find a place just like Atco NJ.
What is it like in your neck of the woods???? Oakie
The bottom two pictures are of our hometown hero's, that sacrificed everything for this great country. For such a small town, we sent four Navy seals to combat, only having three return. Hope you all enjoyed this post. I know I showed these picture before, but we are very proud of our hometown, and its hero's. The first picture is of the Atco mansion, which use to be a hotel during the civil war. The tower at top, is for the elevator, on of the first ever made. It still works, but is not in use.

Yeah, I was born in the middle of the former Cheyenne/Arapaho reservation. My second grade teacher was the great granddaughter of Chief Romannose.

Things used to be fairly mundane and quite acceptable for old folks and children. Then the pork plant came in. Now we have Hispanics of several flavors. Somalis, Nigerians, Ethiopians, and a lot of other 'ans' that I prefer not to think about.
Roads are dangerous to drive because these fresh out of the jungle heathens neither understand or pay attention to such legalities as road signs, drivers' licenses, and vehicle insurance.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^Sounds like Miami, in the mid 70's^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
I lost several friends to the Muriel Boatlift crowd, when Castro emptied out his Jails. Those idiots would put a $100 beater on the road, no insurance, no license, no comprehension of the Law. (Like you describe above.)
Still makes me angry.

Colee's market/ gas station- Potosi Missouri
Sold can goods with no labels. Most were dented up pretty bad, some had black ooze on them. The fun was guessing what you'd get.
(years later when the movie 'look who's talking' came out and the scene where Travolta has such cans of can goods in his hand. I yelled out Colee's Market!!! LOL)

Well when we first moved up here from San Diego we went to Ferndale and later bought in Loleta when I was almost 10. Ferndale is beautiful but I like the peace and quiet of Loleta.
Any good conservative that wants to come is welcome 😄 let's drive the liberals mad.

I grew up just inside the city limits of Sidney Oh. it was a small town what iwouldxonsider any way at the time
Weekend drunks fighting a few car crashes was about it
Yes I did perpicate in both lol as a teen age brat.
but sadly over the years it has expanded as I-75 skirts the town and brought prosperity and the associated influx of people, business, and then crime and drugs took hold serious crime shootings the big city effects in a smaller scale
such things were almost un heard of when I was a kid now not so much sad to see so many small towns taking on the roll of the big towns
It's still a some what decent town but lost its Mayberry feel a long time ago

If you are talking about the light house in front of the Fair Grounds not long ago the Coast Guard took the workings out.

I didn't grow up 'in town' but the first years were within walking distance of town. It's even smaller today. Last population by actual headcount is 48. No store anymore but still have a Post Office and TWO churches.

And a tavern? Can't really be a town in west central Iowa without a post office, a Catholic Church, and a tavern or three. LOL

There is nothing like a small town to me. Got stuck for a year living in a city, guess one out 74 years not bad. Hate the state of Illinois but since I own property that I can walk, and hunt hate to move. Have lived 6 times on the same road, all with in 6 miles of each other. Not many can claim to have done that, I am betting!
