Small town America.
Just got back from going to the bank. When I was passing the barber shop, there were two young boys pulling up to get their hair cut. Not on a bicycle, not in a car or skateboard, Both on horseback. Living in a rural, backwoods American town, this sure has it's perks. It is not unusual to see people going to the store, post office and even the barber shop on Horseback. I always see two Navy Seals that live in town, riding down main street, with a big American flags hooked to their saddles. Saturday night movies at the town hall park, Parades, folks enjoying an ice cream at the little town center, people playing checkers and chess at the American legion pavilion all summer. Yup, give me this little small town living over a city, any day of the week!!!! I wouldn't trade our small slice of heaven for anything. This is my biggest fear moving to Georgia. I hope I can find a place just like Atco NJ.
What is it like in your neck of the woods???? Oakie
The bottom two pictures are of our hometown hero's, that sacrificed everything for this great country. For such a small town, we sent four Navy seals to combat, only having three return. Hope you all enjoyed this post. I know I showed these picture before, but we are very proud of our hometown, and its hero's. The first picture is of the Atco mansion, which use to be a hotel during the civil war. The tower at top, is for the elevator, on of the first ever made. It still works, but is not in use.

That is a fine looking little town.....
My neck of the woods is out in the sticks !!! If I want to go to town, there is a small town 3 miles away... A post office, diner, K-12 school and a small bank. When you visit town, folks drive their UTV's to the diner and around town to do their business.
The good thing about living on our place is the view changes with the seasons......Currently we are surrounded by Corn, beans and hay !

Nothing like that. Not for a very long time. Talk about making me homesick for SW Virginia.

Horses and UTV's are common in town. I needed a part for my BBQ a few weeks ago, and found the part a few towns away. They mailed it to me to see if it was correct, and told me to mail them a check, or the part back if it wasn't correct.
Small town USA....

You may be on to something about the fear of not finding any place like New Jersey down here in Georgia, trust me it don't exist....😊

Cutting a load of fire wood yesterday we saw a bear. Third one this year. Wife and I brought home five nice trout this afternoon, the largest was 3 1/2 pounds. When the kids were younger, wife taught sewing and cooking for 4-H. It is common to see deer crossing the street in town. I was a logger for 37 years. There are four great fishing lakes from 15 to 50 minutes from our two acres in the trees at 5200 feet. Due to heavy snowfall I had to clear my roof twice last winter. We have two active volcanoes less than 100 air miles from us. We usually have venison, fish and a few ducks in our freezer. When the power goes out, we rely on our generator and cook on the wood stove. Susanville, Ca. if you are interested.

Nice patch.
elubsme - Nice area bad it's in California. Should've pumped and dumped before '08. If you got a bit of river with the property you might hit up the "trout" crowed like Orvis or Fly Shop off I-5.

Didn't someone sing a song about "A Small Town"?

Yes. It was John Mellon Cougarcamp

Jason Aldean Try that in a small town. The liberals loved it.

If the world found out about my little town, it would not remain little much longer!
I live out in the sticks, 3 miles from that town. New residents that move here complain about having to dodge all the horse manure on the roadways. Most 2nd or 3rd vehicles owned are golf carts. Mine runs on gas.
My Little Town sung by Simon & Garfunkel
And He used to lean upon me
As I pledged allegiance to the wall
Lord I recall
My little town
[Verse 2]
[Verse 3]
And all of the colors are black
It's not that the colors aren't there
It's just imagination they lack
Back in my little town

You mean John Liberal Melloncamp, AKA, the hater of the second amendment . Guy is truly a knucklehead. Speaking of heads, is that his forehead or the 18th fairway at Augusta National???

This is the large truck stop in the town I call home !! Regular gas in front, white gas in rear.

Like @Brookwood, I am hesitant to post anything about my "Small Town." I like it just the way it is, we do not need outsiders moving in.
My Kinfolk, live all around/up in these Mountain's. That's how I know about the area. Lived all over the US & Europe. Decided to settle here.
@Oakie, knows pretty much where I am. (As does @Butchdog3.)
Living in Paradise.

You live in a metropolis compared to the community I live by, Cameron ill. It’s not considered a town but a community. There are no stores, 1 grain elevator, 1 church and everyone has a well and a septic system. Population 391, the way I know the population is, I just now looked it up. Lol. We live about 5 miles South East in the country, at the end of a dead end road. There is a town about 17 miles away with stores, (Galesburg) population 38,000 I believe. That is where I was born and raised. About a year after I got out of the army I moved to the country and never looked back. If I was to move to a town I would probably get arrested, or bit somebody. Lol

I know exactly what you mean about being hesitant, up until just a few years ago we only had 1 traffic light in the whole county and it was only a caution light, now stop / go traffic lights are everywhere in every direction and the "new comers" are crying for more.......they should've stayed where they were 🤬. And yes, trespassers abound thinking the laws don't apply to them.

My hometown was fairly " small " up until about 20 years ago . Now we are over run by refugees from the state capital 50 miles away ..Used to know almost everyone around now not so much so .

"Copperhead Road," (in Johnson County/The least populated County in TN.) Is about 7 mi. away. Multiple relatives live on it. Grew up putting up hay, cutting and hanging tobacco on it, running cattle etc. Watauga Lake (deemed one of the top five cleanest lakes in America) not too far away. (Huge lake.)
The song, (one of my all time favorites) was recently adopted as a State song. (Similar to "Rocky Top.)
Nope, nothing to see here. Nothing but Mountains, Woods, Creeks/Streams and Lakes. Y'alld hate it here. 🤔😉😂🤣

Were you standing in my front yard when you took this picture?
Except for the hay bale, it looks just like my view to the south.

Despite what the counterculture movement wants you to believe: Small towns are America.
Proud to live in one and wouldn't have it any other way,

Been to Marshall quite a few times. Marshall reminds me of a couple of towns we visited in Alabama. Country living at its finest and everybody know who you are.
