Silly guy had his gun worked on and wants me to pay the bill....I don't think so.

    Kasey, I am sure it is not the $30, its the way the buyer went about it that's the problem. Years ago purchased a Pre-64 Mod 70 Win. from Cabella's Fine Gun Room. Safety parts missing, as I recall ball detent and spring? Called them up and they said send us a copy of parts invoice which I did. Fixed it my self and in less than a week received check in mail from Cabellas for parts. Easy peasy, case closed. ----------------------------Ray

    I'd ask him if he'd sell you a car so you could have it fully repaired and then send him the bill.

    Your auctions all say "As is" so the buyer was probably just giving it a shot trying to save himself 30 bucks. I've never had a dealer do a function check on anything I've bought and wonder if the dealer was just looking to make a few extra bucks? Stick to your guns, I think you are on target not paying for this.

    That was all the gun metaphors I could think of this morning to stick in my comment.😁 Bob

    I normally jump through hoops just to fix whatever nonsense happens quickly with as little steps as humanly possible. I am human and I make mistakes just like everyone else so, if someone sends me a message saying they found an issue I should have caught I'll pay to fix it....send a return label....whater gets things handled asap.

    This guy sent a message saying his safety didn't work. His email went on to say "my FFL wouldn't release it to me without first fixing it and it cost me $30....its only right that you send me payment for this."

    This is a first.....I've never EVER heard of a dealer that REFUSED to give a firearm over before they repaired anything. I've been doing this a while too, so I've heard some crazy stuff over the years.

    If he had contacted me and said the safety didn't work I would have been happy to send payment to him or his gunsmith to fix it. This one rubbed me the wrong way though. The whole idea that I was contacted after he (supposedly) worked on it forced me to say NO to this nonsense.

    He told me he was going to leave me bad feedback....I told him that Gun Broker would remove it because this isn't how you handle things. You don't work on something and then tell the seller they owe you money. I would have sent a return label and given a full refund, but that option is off the table now.

    Its far between the craziness.....most gun people are GREAT....but there are some strange circumstances at times.

    His beef should be with the FFL, not you. Tell him to pound sand.

    He’s just trying to get an extra 30 dollars. I don’t sell on GB but when I worked in sales people pull this stuff all the time. I’ll bet if you offer a full refund he wouldn’t send it back.

    Not release a gun because the safety supposedly didn't work? What do they do with guns that don't have a safety? Do they add one?

    Knowing me I would just send him the $30 so he would shut the heel up. Block the buyer and then move on.

    The proper way to handle this:

    "Hello, Locust Fork? Yeah, I'm here at the gun shop to pick up the gun you sent and the FFL won't release it to me because the safety isn't working. He offered to fix it for $30 dollars but I wanted to see if that was something you would cover?"

    I would call the receiving FFL & first verify that he did in fact repair the safety & if so have him quote the part of the regulation that says he cannot release a used firearm without a functional safety.

    I think that the receiving FFL saw an opportunity to make a couple of extra bucks.

    I agree with calling the FFL and asking what EXACTLY he did to repair the gun to include a parts list with prices and then ask him to, as stated above "quote the part of the regulation that says he cannot release a used firearm without a functional safety. I personally think the FFL is shady, what if the firearm was purchased with the buyer knowing that it needed repair (which it didn't) and was going to fix it themselves?

    And OMG .................... what if it was a parts kit .........................

    YEP...that is how this is done. I don't know if the FFL fixed anything or if its just some magic number he came up with that he thought he could get if he came up with this hairbrained scheme. I could easily call the FFL and see if they know anything about this repair....but I didn't bother. The route the buyer took assured I was not going to participate with this transaction any further in any way whatsoever.

    Maybe it is just me, But I would have paid my dealer the 30 lousy bucks and never contact the seller, unless it was something major or cost a lot more. The buyer handled it the wrong way and I totally concur with what Mr. P said.

    It's not the $30 cost but the possible scenario of setting the stage for future "big dollar" amount claimed repairs. Don't set the presidence, it might come back and bite you in the rear.
