Diabetics check in... goodies in store.
I've gotten my A1c down to 5.6 at my last blood work on 4-May '23.
That's a far cry from the 8.3 that I was at on 18-May '19.
It's taken a lot of hard work on my diet and daily exercise routine. But sadly, since November last year my left knee has been a problem, cutting my daily step count down from 7000+ to about 500. So... now I'm dealing with a new problem... Congestive Heart Failure.
Seems like you get one health issue under control and contained in a reasonable fashion when another one crops up! Fortunately, my cardiologist is 100% in on me getting a knee replacement as soon as we get this CHF treatment underway. My hopes is the new bionic knee goes in before the end of this year, since I've heard rumors that Medicare is cutting out joint replacements from the coverage plan.
So...
Since I've gotten my A1c and diet pretty much in hand, I've needed to go to a smaller syringe which also has half unit hash marks. My previous syringes are full unit hash marks making it difficult for my poor old eyes to successfully gage what 5.5 or even worse what 5.75 units of Insulin look like in the syringe. I've always used "EASY-TOUCH" 31G x 5/16" x 0.5mL(cc) syringes. They work great, have essentially ZERO resistance to the skin, and are very sharp, allowing for almost effortless dosing. I've since replaced these with the 0.3mL(cc) which have the half hash mark units.
I generally try and donate unused insulin and supplies, but even though these are unopened and sealed, they still have an "expiration date" and the donation group I've worked with in the past won't accept them! They'll just throw them out which seems like a real waste to me, but I'm just a frugal ol'Inganeer, so what do I know??
I've got a goodly supply of the 0.5(cc) syringes in unopened packs of ten and boxes of ten packs (100 syringes) setting on my shelf that I'd like to pass on to anyone that uses this type of syringe. Currently, if you buy these online, anywhere from $11.89/(box of 100) to $17.59/(box of 100)... so there's a lot of value just sitting on my shelf free for the taking!

The hardest part of my CHF treatment was the catheterization and placement of two stents (in retrospect not that bad). A little change in meds and moderate exercise is doing the trick. I too am type 2 but don't use that style insulin & syringe.

I don't have diabetes, but I do have CHF. Six massive heart attacks, and seven stents. Born with small arteries. Feeling great and have my cardio doc up my backside, all the time. He keeps me going. I just can't give up all the stuff I need to, like cheese and seafood. I do limit it though and stopped drinking coffee so much. I have about six ounces of coffee a day. Coke is my worst enemy. I drink it like it is going out of style.

I've never eaten an A1C in my life and don't intend to. I don't have to worry about keeping it down that way.
