Taurus handguns
What is it about Taurus handguns that some folks don't like?
The way some talk about them makes them sound like absolute junk, I have a couple of them and I like them, they feel good in the hand, they shoot straight and they go bang every single time you pull the trigger.

The ones who bad mouth them don't have them. Don

I have had no problems with their revolvers. In their first several years the internet was full of complaints about their semi-autos and their customer service. Never had a semi auto of theirs.

Owned a mdl 85 (82?) .38Special revolver by them, since sold. Currently own a very nice .357mag revolver by them. (Would have to go pull it out of the safe to tell you a mdl #.)
One of my favorite carry pieces, is a 740 Slim. 7 shot, .40cal, single stack. The ergonomics are about perfect.
I've never had a problem with any of my Taurus's.
No problem recommending them.

I have a G3C. Always goes bang, small, easy to conceal, fits well. Excellent little gun.

Agreed No issue with the revolvers...they are not Smiths or Colts but they work...
Their Semi-autos in the past were problematic. I got burnt on one that went back to the factory twice and still was
not working properly.... Have not even looked at one in the last 30 years.

They're an entry level gun with entry level quality.

I haven't seen a quality issue. Coming up on 500 rounds thru the G3C and not a single failure to feed, extract or eject.

The fit and finish is entry level. The quality is entry level. The function is usually fine, but entry level quality leads to "my gun is fine" "my gun sucks" about the same mfg.

I have a model 85 in 38 special and I have never had any problems with it. It has been a nice carry gun for when I am out bowhunting or riding the ATV/UTV. I did buy a used model 85 for my son from the LGS and it had a broken firing pin. We shipped it back to Taurus and it was returned in about three weeks or maybe less with no questions asked and a new firing pin and explanation of the work done. True they are definitely not a Colt or Smith but I think they get bashed a lot more than they deserve.

Ok, I'll give you that. It's not a shiny, well manicured handgun. It's far more function than form. And some of their revolvers are just plain ugly.

I have mentioned before that I spent a dozen years at the gun counter and during that time sold quite a few Taurus handguns. We probably had to send at least 20% back for warranty work. The only model I don't recall ever sending in was their PT99. They must have done a better job copying the Beretta than they did some of the other brands. That being said, I retired in 2010 and have heard that their quality has improved a bit. That may be so but I will stick with my Colts, Smiths and Rugers. Bob

BOOZE .... BOOZE .... BOOZE .... BOOZE .... BOOZE
There ya go. 😀

I think Ruger is entry level, but their quality is not. I even have 2 semi-autos, though I own more revolvers.
Mr.P is right that "entry level" (= budget?) quality usually results in lovers and haters and not much in between.

Well if you drink your Taurus is a better gun, than what I don't know, but then again I've been drinking... hope that helps Kevin.

I had a couple beers before my Taurus comments which may have swayed my enthusiasm toward the "settle down Francis" side of things. 😁
Nevertheless, I think Taurus makes some good guns these days and they're worth a shot.

Both of mine are revolvers both .357, one an earlier, (blued) six shot and the other is newer, stainless and a seven shot.
The blued one is a deep blue like a Colt (I know, not a Colt) and the fit and finish is very nice, the stainless one also has a nice fit and finish, I guess that I was lucky enough the buy the only two nice revolvers that Taurus ever made.
If buying a revolver that doesn't cost $1500. to $2500. means that it's "entry level" .... so be it.
If it can put six holes in your chest at 50 feet, it doesn't much matter who's name is stamped on the barrel.
Your mileage may vary

The only experience I have with Taurus handguns was a Tracker in .41 mag. Functioned fine and didn't look bad, but not having much for components in .41 available locally, I didn't hold on to it for long.

I got a 1911 a year or so after they came out . So far no problems. Only issue is the large billboard looking graphics on the slide. Sold tons of them when working at the gun store . Had one customer come in and complain in 3 years.

My MIL saw and had to have a PT-22 tip up semi auto. Pretty lil thing with the pink pearl grips and gold accents.
Shot it one round- the barrel tipped up, the slide blew off, and her hand hurt pretty bad. It was sold.

That kinda happened to me with a Walther built Colt .22. First shot one of the white spots in the rear sight came out. 2nd shot the other one disappeared. I don't remember exactly what happened to that pistol.
File under the category: Things ain't what they used to was.

I'm currently carrying a Taurus G2C. I could own/carry anything I desire BUT the G2C is my choice. Never had a failure, always works, easy to carry= good enough for government work.
The 'repeat strike' feature(seems to be since I've never needed it) is definitely a plus even though it's not on the recommended list by the big name SD 'trainers'.
