FAR from junk firearms! The Japanese built these well and had the most elegant wood I have ever seen on a stock rifle. I have owned four I think but haven’t seen one in two decades.

Excellent rifle introduced back in the 70's. The company was started by some folks from the Olin/Kodensha firearms plant that made stuff like the Winchester 101. They first brought out shotguns and sold out their first years production in about 6 months. I had one of their O/U skeet guns and it was first rate. Their bolt action rifles were strong, accurate, the workmanship was excellent and I never saw one with ugly wood. Sadly, in the crowded firearms field they don't get the respect they should. Great rifle but no collectors interest I am afraid. Bob

Edit; Forgot to mention that Nikko also made guns for other companies. For instance they made Weatherby shotguns and also the Weatherby Mark XXII rifle. Good old Roy demanded perfection in his products so you know Nikko was a good company.

Put up a pic of the chamber stamping on the barrel.

I had one in 7mm mag. They are beautiful, well made rifles with really nice wood.

I don't know why I typed win.mag.... 270 win. Thanks. I was talking to another member off line and we were discussing a 257 Weatherby mag. Probably why I typed win mag.

I have one in 30-06. I have to agree with the others. If you can find one buy it.

I have one in 7 Rem mag. As has been said, they are beautiful rifles but with the rear locking lugs, incipient case separations are a problem if you reload. I guess I'll have to get it out again and expand/resize some new cases to a crush fit and see how it does.

I have one of each caliber that they made and a couple, more than one. They are outstandingly accurate rifles from top to bottom calibers, wonderful triggers and the wood is gorgeous on all of them. Some of the wood would cost well over 2k these days. I started acquiring them when they first came out, including the white/red interior hard case. But I will forewarn you…the barrels do warm up rather quickly when shooting off a bench. I was lucky enough to purchase some of those GUNCHAPS when they were manufactured to fit the rifles. Weatherby chaps are close but the GE is a tad longer than the Weatherby. There were a few made for the Euro market with the Winchester logo…can’t remember the model #.
