Does Anyone Make A Gun Safe...
...with a combination dial lock?
I do not trust an electric lock, but it seems to be the standard anymore.
I had my mind set on a Snap Safe from Hornady, but it only comes with a battery-operated toy lock.
Maybe I'll have to shop the used market?

Browning still has some versions with the option of an S&G dial lock. A bit pricey though. Bob

David, I too am no fans of electric safes, but what I have learned is with many safes if the battery loses voltage, the lock will not work. Some will not work with a loss of a mere volt. This means even batteries that are new will not work unless they are fully charged. What's worse are safes with lighted keypads that suck away the charge. The only way to deal with these safes it to keep a spare battery handy. IMHO Cannons are the worse and I pity anyone who has to deal with their CS.
BTW, Some if you fat finger a number will not allow a second chance without a specific wait period.

David, I like dial combination locks also. My wife has tried many times & she can not open one.

Mine is an almost 6 foot tall Champion -- Triumph Series -- dial with key lock for dial.

Try to find a used Treadlock safe. They were made in roanoke, Virginia, but went out of business. Even if you have to have it shipped, it'll be worth it.

Easy fix. A locksmith who works on safes can replace the Mattel toy electronic lock with a solid, old fashioned, dial lock. I was looking for a safe with a dial lock and all I could find were electronic. Then I found exactly the safe I wanted but with the wrong lock. The dealer said it was no problem. A few days later it was delivered to my house with a dial lock. Works great.

Yes. Both of mine are combo locks. They are Fort Knox.

Electric locks have battery on the outside. I have 4 gun safes all with electronic locks for over 30 years. No problems
The only problem I did have was a combo lock, which I did have to break into. I did change it to an electronic lock and had no more problems.

Look at "tracker gun safes" local safe store here carries them but they have models that have the old mechanical locks

my old Cannon safe is fine
the only thing better about my Browning is the guns on the door
keypads on both do have to replace batteries sometimes
old ways are the best usually though

My safe used to eat batteries, so I hooked up a 9V wall wart, It's been running fine for almost 20 years now.

I have also heard/read that any competent Locksmith can change out a Dial Lock for an Electronic Lock. (Or vice versa.)
My Cannon (Widebody) has been very reliable, and does Not eat batteries. (S&G electronic keypad) A 9 volt will last in the neighborhood of 8 years. (My last one did.) It gives an audible "Chirp," (like a smoke detector) when it needs attention. My only reservation is an EMP. In which case, I'd (and everyone else) would be screwed and have to rely on what is outside the safe.
If my Battery powered tools were fully charged, I could get in, but destroy the safe. (But) Thinking about it now, those batteries would probably be fried also.
I have a door kit, for installing an organizer for handguns, documents, etc. to be mounted on the inside of the door. (But) It requires the removal of the dual thickness (Green) Drywall Fire proofing panels to mount the brackets along the edges. I can remove them, I can not figure out how I am going to slide them back in to position behind door. Gonna be a 2/3 person job. (At least 2.)

Fire chief told me not to waste my money on a fireproof safe, as they only protect you for a few short minutes longer.

Really? The STACK-ONs I have seen are little better than a Homak steel gun cabinet.

I know about all the Liberty safe stuff, But I have four of them. Two with the dial and key lock and two with the electronic locks. I prefer the electronic locks over the dial, because it is faster to get into the safe. I hate having to try seeing the numbers on the dial lock. Those numbers are so damn small. I have never had one issue with any of the electronic locks. Even if the battery dies, I keep a few on hand and it has a memory built in. To be honest, I haven't had the batteries die on me, before I changed them. One battery I had in there for three years. Liberty makes them with both locks. I know with all the stuff going on, but I prefer the Liberty safes. You can order them through Lowes, cheaper than going to a Liberty store!!! The last two I bought, I got through Lowes. I prefer Liberty because of the construction. You have to spend some time watching the video's on different safes. Anyway, I don't think you will have any problems with the electronic lock.

I have a couple different kinds, but the Browning not only works well, it looks much better than any of the others.

I have a regular dial lock safe from this company. Made in America. Got to visit their manufacturing facility in Fresno when I lived there. I bought one of their blem ones and saved some cash. The blem was barely noticeable and on the back side where nobody would see. Sturdy Safe makes some great stuff.
