A Joke? If So, He Got Me.
Had my Dish TV Service totally re-done (equipment etc.) About a month ago. My "Service," was/had been beyond pathetic. If it even looked like it was going to rain, it would go out for hours. It got to almost every morning when I got up, I got the dreaded "Signal has been lost," notice.
Final straw was when my remote, no longer worked with my "Service." Random rapid scrolling with no control. Etc. After spending about 2+ hours on the phone with about 4+ "Tech's" explaining the problem, only to lose the call due to my pathetic Cell phone "Service." ("Terrain issues.") Finally got fed up enough that I asked to speak to a "Retention Specialist." I was ready to Cancel my "Service." She was great and very sympathetic to what I had just gone through. She hooked me up with a "No Charge" equipment upgrade w/Tech visit and 2 "Premium" channels for 4-6 mo. (No need to call and cancel them either.) Also lowered my Bill by $20/mo. ππ
Anyway Tech comes, we hit it off and he listens to what I had been going through with their "Customer Service," as he upgrades my equipment and re-orients my Satellite dish to improve Signal strength.
Every morning (since he left) I would wake up, turn the TV on and get hit with "Reba" or "Golden Girls." It would also randomly tune these in whenever they were on. I finally discovered this AM that he had set these two series up as my "Favorites." Very Funny. π€πππ€£

Amen to that. I'd have to be hunting him down. π

I was watching Cable News (?) this AM, when all of a sudden it switched to "The Golden Girls." (Again.) Something is up. π€ I've known for awhile, but couldn't figure it out. (The how.)
Spent about 10-15 minutes playing with my remote and various options to figure out what was going on. Finally figured out that these two Series had been set up under my "Favorites." I had to laugh. (No way was that an accident.)
It's the kind of thing, I would do to another guy, if I was a visiting "Tech."
*In my defense, the remote, all the options, everything, was totally different to what I had been used to. (He knew that also.) You couldn't just see on the normal channel guide, that these had been set to "Auto Tune." Very Sneaky.
I like it. ππ

Anymore when I call a service representative such as with Directv, Hughes net, and so on, I ask to speak to someone located in the United States, by law they have to connect you.
If you have Directv and want to check signal strength an alignment: Go to menu, then setting & help, then settings, then to satellite, go to signal strength, and then to signal meters. You want a signal to be around 90 or higher. If signal is around 65 or 70 or lower you can adjust it your self. Have someone watch signal meter while you adjust the dish,. You will need 9/16 wrench. Start with horizontal adjustment then vertical adjustment. As your adjusting direction have someone telling you change in signal strength, makes it a lot easier.
You wouldnβt think that the alignment would change but it does from time to time. Ground shifts, weather moves dish, satellite drifts.

I am aware of (and discussed with my Service Tech.) the "I want to speak to a Service Representative located in the United States rule/law." I ended up using that after about 3 phone calls. (Getting nowhere fast.)
My Signal, on a bright sunny day, when the Service Tech was here and measured it, was a 20. π He found that out, said "That's Pathetic." Got it back up to around 80-90 before he left. Spent ablout an hour out and around the Dish doing so.
The final straw, was when the Cust/Serv. phone Tech's, were telling me my current equipment was "Obsolete," (not my fault.) And that they could/would upgrade my Equipment, (But) the new equipment would cost $10 more per month, (and only if) I signed a new 2 year "Service Agreement" (and) that I would have to pay for the Service Tech visit in order to get everything up and running.
Me - "Uhh.............................No."

We had a guy frm Dish out to re-align our dish a couple weeks ago. I was not impressed with him. Glad you got a good one!

It made my morning, figuring this out (finally) and laughing about it. ππ
I've known from the beginning, that "something" was up. I just could not figure out the "How."
He definitely, got me. π€

Ken, went to Customer Retention Program at Dish. Was getting $40 discount each month and dealt with two reps that could hardly speak English. Finally demanded someone in USA. They cut me from $40 discount on America's 200 to $5 and promised I would lose no channels. Lost a good local weather channel. Then they said I could have it back if I went to Hopper ( all new equip) for about extra $20 month. In 1.5 years hopefully I will be in Virginia and Antennae works great down there. Then they can all go to H. I can't use an Antennae in Monroe because I am in a bowl and reception is terrible. I am sure you would have same problem in your Holler. ----------------------------------------Ray

My sat dish on top of my garage for Hughes Net looked like it had been shot with small cannon after about 7 years of service. I was having a lot of problems last winter and had a technician come out and set me up with a brand new dish mounted on the ground. The new dish was quite a bit bigger and was a lot easier to clean up after a major snow fall.
I never mentioned the reason the old one was all bent to heck. I was whamming on it with my extended handled roof rake all those years! π
Just this last Spring, underground fiber optic cable was run across my property. Got a card in the mail a couple weeks ago that I now can have Spectrum service with all of the bennies included!! Going to be making the change soon. Never thought living out in the sticks would ever get a chance! Bye Bye HughesNet!!

Had some guy knock on my door recently claiming he was from DirecTV and wanted to know if everything was working fine and was I happy with the price. Took me about two questions to discover he was actually from Dish and was trying to get us to switch. No effing way.

I am glad to see (not really) that other's here, have been experiencing my pain.
TV satellite "Service's," have you by the "short hairs," when you live out in the Boonies. (As well as Internet providers. Satellite only here.) My access is via a Verizon decicated Samsung Galaxy Tab E. (I wave it around, stand on back picnic table etc.) I doubt many here, go through what I do, in order to be present here.
Despite all the frustrations, I would not have it any other way. ππ

^^^^^While I am not sure (entirely) what that is supposed to mean,^^^^^
I am willing to have/experience technological shortcomings, in order to live in a place of Natural Beauty ("Terrain Issue's" etc.) and in a Free State.
Anything else, is merely an inconvenience.

We're supposed to get fiber optic I'm my rural area soon. When we do, Dish is history.

Ken, was the service tech related to Ricci?
