Looking for opinions.
I have been watching an auction for about a week and it is getting close to closing. I checked on the auction only to find that the Seller has substantially raised the auction minimum starting price hours out from auction close. Now, I realize that since no bids had been placed that the Seller can raise or lower the price as they see fit. However, it seems rather unethical to raise the price just prior to auction close, rather like a bait and switch move in my opinion.
My question is, "Would you trust a Seller that engages in this type of business practice?"
Not me, I'm out.
Also, why not include price changes in an "auction history" box as that might assist buyers in seeing trending price moves? Just a suggestion.

His guns, his prices. I'd like to see the auction. Please post the link.
If the price was suddenly out of my range, I'd move along. Otherwise, he's not doing anything out of line and if his feedback is top-shelf, I figure everything is on the up & up.

If you don't like the price do not bid...... I have seen items go almost to the end of the auction without any bids and end with several in the last day or even last hours. Maybe the item has a ton of watchers and the seller is fishing for a few more bucks....

OK, here's my situation. I have a continual issue with getting blocked from bidding or folks refusing to do business with me via GB,[some other place] or over the internet in general. Now before you run to judgement, let me lay out the details. I work offshore for the oil\gas industry. I travel all over the world. Now when I am LUCKY enough to get an internet connection that is not blocked from gun related sites (yes, most of the time the rigs, vessels, and even countries I travel to block access to ANY sites that are considered gun related. I get blocked from hunting and fishing sites as well. Most Americans don't realize just how lucky they truly are)I like to cruise through GB, [some other place], etc. looking for my next "toy". A problem I have is one of getting timely payment to a Seller if I win an auction. If the Seller takes credit cards, no problem there. If they don't, then it is either PayPal or sometimes I can get a buddy to cover non-FFL purchases for me till I get back stateside. But my biggest problem is the Sellers themselves. I will mention that I am on a boat off the coast of W. Africa or someplace and need to pay via CC or PayPal but the purchase will be shipped to my home in Texas or FFL dealer and.....BAM!!!! Blocked from bidding! WTH??? I fail to see the issue. Can someone explain this to me? I esp. don't understand for FFL purchases that go to my local pawnshop for the FFL transfer....how friggin' paranoid can one be? Do they really believe that a shipment to a legitiment FFL dealer is going to somehow get them indicted for international gunrunning? Am I just being punished for being honest?
I would appreciate some suggestions because I am out here busting my tail to bring home the goodies and I feel like I'm the turd in the punch bowl. It's frustrating enough to be away from home for a month or more at a time and getting crapped on by these guys doesn't help.0 -
He's just trying to keep from losing his a__ but I don't like the idea either, one would think that the seller would start off with the beginning minimum bid being a number he could live with and let it ride. I don't see how raising the minimum would stimulate more interest if there was none at a lower minimum but "his gun, his prices" is spot on and you did have a chance to bid on it with the original, lower minimum.
However, to answer your question, No, I wouldn't deal with someone that did that, I'd just keep on looking.

I mostly ignore minimum starting price/reserve auctions.

The other watchers must have agreed with me. Auction ended with no bids but relisted for higher price. Seller has a B rating. Not surprised.

Complaints about sellers and/or how auctions are run on GB should be addressed to GB auction support not here in the forums. No official warning at this time but please reread the forum guidelines found near the top of every forum. This one is done.
