Speaking of spankings
When I was in the 6th grade, I went to a Catholic School. I don't remember the Holyday, but we were marching from the church back to the school building. Supervisors were moms of kids and Nuns with out smiles. When we got back to my classroom, I was instructed to head to the office. Why I asked. Mrs. Wroble said, just go and find out. I arrived at the office, and was greeted by Sister Rose Edwards. About as tall as me, but she weighed 160 pounds more. A lot more than me. She asked "why I did you give Mrs. Roberts a dirty look." I responded with, " I didn't look at anyone wrong." Sister Rose Edwards said, "Mrs. Roberts doesn't lie". I thought someone is mistaken and it isn't me. The Sister asked me to hold out my hands knuckles up. "Don't move." Then she hit my hands one at a time with the edge of the ruler. Ouch 2 times. "Let that be a lesson to you," she told me. "Go back to class". Someone gave Mrs. Roberts a look an it wasn't me. That's what I told my Mom. Mom was a meek woman usually. But don't mess with my kids attitude. The next morning we marched into the office. Mom was mad, I was sad, and Sister Rose Edwards was mean. Mom and I went home for the day. Yay, no school. I still remember being punished for something I didn't do. But I have done things that should not have done. Beware of chubby Nuns.

I use to work with several other kids from a local catholic church they had a lot stories about the nuns and their devotion to using a ruler on hands and knuckles. 😲
I was hoping your story would end with your mom using the ruler on the sister. LOL

... went to Catholic school in the 6th grade too...don't remember what it was for, but I'm pretty sure I was guilty of doing it...Nun took me out in the hall and whacked the back of my hand with a wooden ruler...I guess I embraced the dark side the rest of my school years...consistent A-B grades but I got my butt whipped regularly starting in the 7th grade...I got several 1hr after school detentions every week...had football/baseball practice so I couldn't waste an hour in detention hall, soooo, I went to the office and the took 4 licks per each detention, boy, those wooden paddles could sure warm your butt up...REALLY heated your butt when you had 2-3 detentions to get "burned" off...I can see that that Maple paddle with the holes in it still today...the good 'ol days...

Our Jr. High PE instructor was also the Head Varsity wrestling coach for the high school. He was NOT a guy to mess with.. Overall he was a lot of fun made things interesting. As always there is one of those guy that will push a point too far. One of our classmates crossed coach a couple days in a row and then got caught swiping something out of the coach's office.
His punishment was one swat with the coach's clipboard. He gathered us all around the guy and explained he would only hit him in the butt once and would NOT lift the clipboard higher than his shoulder. The moron kid made some smart remark about this will be nothing.........
Coach had the kid bend over and grab his ankles. As the kid snickered, coach took one step back, jump into the air and with perfect follow through whomped the kid hard enough to knock him to the floor.. He handed the kid a Kleenex and we headed off to gym to continue class.
Problem addressed, no need for anyone to go see the principle or be suspended or given detention..... All was forgiven and forgotten....
NONE of us ever crossed coach the rest of that year !!!!
That was over 50 years ago....I think things have changed a lot since then..
