What Did You Get Spanked With
Growing Up?
Back when, that's what responsible Parents did to discipline their Children.
My Dad was a Life Long Military (Army) ABN CSM. When he would get home from a day On Base and Mom would tell him what you had done, you were gonna get that whipping that Mom said/told you you were going to get, "when your Dad get's home."
Being in Fatigues or Khakis, he would have on a Web belt with the metal tip. He'd take you into your bedroom, make you pull your pants down and bend over the bed. Then always tell you, "This is going to hurt me, more than it is going to hurt you." (Never understood that until I got older.)
You'd typically get it on the butt, or on the top of your legs, right below your butt. Pretty tender spot. (More so than the butt.)
Pap Paw (when there) would make you "Go cut your own Switch." (A young flexible tree branch, a little thinner than your finger, for those of you not Southern.) If he was really mad, he'd whip out his thin leather belt and use it right then.
At School, it would typically be an aerated (with holes in it) Wood Paddle. Usually prominently displayed on the Principle or more usually the VP's wall.
If you got Mom mad enough, you'd get slapped in the face, before Dad got home.
All your friends Parent's had permission to spank you, if needed. In which case, you were guaranteed another spanking, when you got home. Ditto for School.
Any Butt Whipping I got, I deserved. (And) I am a better Person/Man because of it.

I can still hear the sound of the end of his belt hitting every belt loop as he pulled it off to whoop one of us...

My mother had the leather strap that used to be used by barbers. You needed to get that once to get the picture that whatever I did I did not want to do it again.
My mother had the exact same strap.......given to her by her mother. When she flew into a rage.........🤬......depending on her "condition".......it was bad. In later years, I swore that if I ever found that strap......it would end up in tiny pieces........and BURNED.......in her presence, if possible. If what occurred had happened in the last 40 years.........she'd be in jail........which is what I told her after my first child was born.
Even so.......my wife and I did spank our kids a few times......but ONLY with an open hand, and never when we were mad.
As others have said.......it hurt us more.😔

What ever was at hand, including the hand. A wet dish towel hurt the worse.
I never deserved it, though. I was a perfect angel.😈

Funny what you said that about burning it. We moved from an apt. we lived into my grandparents house and we hid the strap so she could not find it after the move.
She just resorted to the paddle that had a rubber band and ball. Of course we lost the ball so she had a new thing to use on us.

wire handled flyswatter if it was Mom. Dad would usually use his ball cap . That metal button on the top stings

After all the beatings I got, I made a vow to myself that I would never do that to my child. When my daughter needed some corrective training she got 1 whack with my open hand on her bare bottom. That got the point across without scarring her for life.

Hit with just about anything that wouldn't leave a scar by both parents.
Mother broke a broom over my back when I was fifteen.
And I deserved many more that I didn't get.

I got a lot of belt spankings when I was younger....but the worst one was when I was around 13. I had locked the door to keep him away, he took the door off the hinges and pulled me out from under my bed. He told me that was the last spanking I would ever get...and it was. I think that one made him worry. It was never a small ordeal when I was being punished and my mom didn't pull the "dad card" unless she really had to....so I knew what was coming when things got too over the line.
I'm not saying it was abuse at all.....I was terrible at times, I totally deserved every bit of it.
I think each child needs different things and spankings don't work with every one. My three are the perfect example. My oldest, you couldn't beat any lesson into her, but logic worked great......"be good or your betime is an hour before your sister has to go to bed." My middle child was the hippy child that felt everything and emotions were top tier when it came to punishment....."you have hurt my feelings with how you acted". My son wouldn't learn anything no matter HOW you approached things....but he was an angel we didn't have to worry about until the hormones took over and then GOOD LUCK.

Anyone remember the episode when the Austin Mini Cooper with the British Flag painted on the roof broke down?
John Cleef (?) Runs out of an overhead camera frame, shot of the car. He is off screen for a few moments, and then comes running back in to the frame with a big tree branch and starts mercilessly flogging the car.

In my earlier reply, I didn’t get into specifics. Just that I got hit with everything and anything. I will mention the worst, though. It was that stick on window blinds that you turn to open/close the louvres. The ones in the ‘80s off our metal blinds were heavy, solid acrylic, with an edged octagon shape. My mom kept one handy and whipped me mercilessly with it, for even the smallest mistake. Legs, back, across the face…whatever she could reach. I usually ran, so back and the backs of legs got the worst. I remember it would leave bleeding welts, and I would think, “This can’t be normal.”
I remember the day after my 15th birthday, she got enraged about something and pulled out the blinds turner. I grabbed her arm, wrenched the thing out of her hand, and said, “You will NEVER hit me again!” I took down every one in the house and threw them in the creek near our house.
Dad worked me over pretty good when he got home, but it was well worth it. Mom was scared enough that she never tried to hit me again after that.
