Drug Overdose.
I got a call this morning, from a Mother of a man that use to work for me. He OD'd on Heroin. Very sad. He was the type of guy that always had a smile on his face, never complained and had something nice to say about everyone. The whole company loved him. He left to go into business as a painter, his true passion. I guess he had some demons. I am still completely stunned. He is the last person I would have every though would get involved in that stuff. We are going to his funeral next week. His mom called me because she said he always talked highly of myself and the other guys that worked here, and wanted us to know how much we meant to him. I feel heart sick. He had a wife and two young sons.
This epidemic knows no boundaries, and is heartless and cruel to anyone in its path. I know we probably all know someone hooked or recovering from drug addiction, But this one was totally unexpected and really hurts. Yeah, I loved this man. Joe was his name. please save a prayer tonight, for his young boys and wife. Oakie

I have lost two nephews to the same monster, with a third one battling for some type of life after two overdoses.
There is a group out there raising money for mental health that we have given to for a while now, called the Scars Foundation.
It's supported by, and promoted by the band I was talking about the other day, Godsmack.
They are dedicated to the mental issues surrounding depression and substance abuse.

...sorry to hear that...there used to be a stigma associated with H, mostly because the users were down and outers who shot it up...last couple of decades people started putting it in a joint or snorting it thinking they are "safe" using it that way, and some are, hold regular jobs and people never know...but you can get dead using it by any method... if you play with it long enough, you're in trouble before you realize it...there is still more Meth freaks around than those on heroin...IF I had to be around one or the other, I'd choose the droopy heroin user, not the wired up schizo Meth head...

Prayers for you an your friends family. my partner has a daughter dealing with those daemons its very hard to get rid of. They hide it so well. An now with the stuff the dealers mix in with the dope it makes all kinds of trouble. So sorry for your loss.

I guess I'm just naïve about drugs or whatever, because I have never done them or associated with people that use them. I never even tried marijuana. I was always hunting, trapping or fishing, growing up. Now here we are 60 years later, and it is in your face 24/7. Pot dispensaries on every corner, drug addicts laying in the streets of Philadelphia and San Francisco, and the government handing out needles and safe spaces to do hard drugs. This is why I don't want to live near a big town or even have neighbors. Give me some woods , a good hunting dog and a place to fish, and I will be happy the rest of my life. Now that is a "HIGH", I can live with. Oakie

What really sucks is unimaginable amount of narcotics crossing the border literally unfettered due to the current DEMOCRAT presidents open border policy. Drugs are everywhere and cheap.

Sure wish there was something I could say that'd take some of the pain away, Oakie. That is a terrible thing to have to find out.

It'll touch all our lives, sooner or later. We have lost several young people in our area.
I expect to get a call any day about a loved one.

But even if you do know it's a tough battle to get some one to give it up same with smoking and drinking in excess

I could never wrap my head around why anyone would even consider taking lethal drugs. It just doesn't make one lick of sense to me.

Because some people are so broken, they'll do anything to feel a moment of happiness or relief. And there's always a creep around the corner waiting to help these people destroy themselves.
One of my best friends has been sober and clean for 25 years now. He's one of the lucky ones. Woke up one day in a literal "live or die" situation and chose life. Not everyone has the willpower to do that.
A prayer for the broken and some Old Testament style punishment for the enablers.

Tough read Oakie. When I grew up in the '50"s, heroin was all you ever heard and that wasn't often. What happened to our country?
