From the damage on the plane it looks like the AA shell hit the plane, entered his body and exploded. That would make his corpse unrecoverable. This is a very sad tale with his death one out of almost 300,000 US personnel during WWII.

Having been closely missed by uncountable bullets, shells, and at least one missile, I can say that the one comforting thought is that it will likely be instantaneous when it happens.

I believe I seen this film before on a documentary. If I remember right, they said he was decapitated.

    Much RESPECT, Sir.

You can not do more for your Country, than give your Life for it. (Which He did.) Crisp Hand Salute, Sir. 🤚

This country owes him a debt which we can never hope to repay.

I can't be sure, but I'd bet he'd say it's the other way around - that he paid a debt to his country.

truly a sad moment and show of honor from the ship's crew.

I have see it many times in war documentary's and you tube

I will guess the shell exploded bonding him and plane parts into one unit.

they did what was the best option.

RIP sir you gave it all. for the country

I hope you can look down and see how you are honored and thet your life was not wasted. along with all your fellow military family's

The guy who got buried at sea in the plane? I heard about it from a youtuber called TJ3 gaming, who has posted several videos using War Thunder and IL-2 Sturmovik to re-enact some historic air battles and show how things happened. Lately he's been getting stories straight from the WW2 vets themselves and telling them on his channel.
