thanks gh, I thought it would have been earlier with the non-micro grove rifling. I don't have Brophy's book.

also; when did 'Marlin' sell out to Remington?

2007 BOUGHT but still manufactured until 2009- 10 depends on how you get the info. Parts guns in 2010 and suspect to quality is what I read on the forum.

Ok doing some research , the double although pre micro looks like J equates to 1952 without micro barrel. L would be month. Several references have different dates on changes. My apologies-

Rather than use up another post, some info states 1955 some states 1956- when micro started. And another sight has it 54- but not in production.

Also the two digit prefix is supposed to be on the 60's rifles with micro. But yours is earlier so according to the J equates to 1952. Yes, lots of "info" to be gleaned/ Anyway, you have a time tested rifle that is one of the best levers built imo. I kind of collected them some decades ago and then moved on to something else and all of them were very well built rifles.

"My apologies-"...........none needed, thanks for the info. I thought the 'micro grove' rifling came in the early 1950's. I did check on-line and Marlin info is very confusing.

Marlin intro'd Microgroove on .22s in July 1953; early 1956 in all centerfires (per Leverguns article by Glen Fryxell using historical data from Brophy's book).

My 336 in 35 Rem. is H4796 (1951), seems to jibe with 1952 as your mfg. date. Also have one in 30-30 ca. 1980, my go-to deer gun.
